Boiling hot water on scalp??

Hello ladies,

Right now I am in some serious pain and tears. I had just got through making my own deep conditioner, which is coconut milk, mixed with pure honey. After I boil it and let it sit for a while and put it on my hair. Well, today, I when I thought that it was warm enough to apply on my hair I started pouring and BURNED is what I got.

My scalp now is burning and in much pain from the scorching water. Have anyone experience scorching water on their scalp? If so, how did it affect the hair? I am hoping my hair doesn’t fall out or not grow because of this. Advice needed?

1. Go to a pharmacy and see if you can find something to treat burns. Ask the pharmacist on duty for a product recommendation.

2. Make an appointment with a dermatologist to see if they can give you something stronger and to get an opinion on the damage that has been done.

Good luck.

boiling hot water?!?!?! that's so scary!!!

whatever you do, don't do it again! why are you putting water on your hair that hot??? warm or cool water is just fine for your hair.

sorry this happened to you. :(

First thing is to head to the emergency room--you could have a first degree burn on your scalp.

In the meantime, put pure 100% aloe gel on your scalp--same as you would do for any burn. If you can get the aloe from an aloe plant, that's even better. Don't rub it into the scalp--just smooth it on.

I did the same thing but with OIL! It didn't burn me, but it gave me an ouchie. I hurt for a few mins and I was ok. Asses the level of pain your in and either go to the Dr. or the drugstore.

Blkbeauty,
never never NEVER boil anything that you intend to use on your scalp! My best friend made that mistake...and has the scars on her head and neck to prove it.
Cortizone cream or neosporin may help your burn feel better...but if it was really that hot, and you are still in pain, go to the emergency room.

Sorry this happened to you. I burned myself once with a hot oil treatment that I put in the microwave for too long. It wasn't to the boiling point though. It only hit the center of my scalp and that's where I already have problems. But that spot was clean/bald for a while. It did grow back with individual braids.

If it's burning still, go to the drug store and see what they say. In the meantime, try some pure aloe vera gel.

I am so sorry this happened to you:( But I dont understand your post. Did you get burned from your conditioner mixture or from water? I'm kinda slow:ohwell: Once again, I'm sorry that this happened to you. I hope everything is okay and your hair and scalp will suffer no long term damages.

Never put anything micro waved on your scalp either unless you test it with your hands 1st. I stopped heating my oils they get hot fast.

Really sorry this happened to you. I agree with whoever suggested aloe vera gel to help cool and heal.

I also agree with whoever said NEVER heat anything, even oils, before putting on hair -- IMO, the best way to get optimal conditioning benefits is to apply product to hair first, cover with plastic cap and then use heating cap, dryer, steamer, etc. I know some ladies get great benefits from heating/warming oils and condish but I've didn't get anything from it and wasn't worth the "mess" and difficulty applying. I do notice better results if heat apply when product already on hair.

Good luck and hope you heal fast . . .

Thank you ladies I am fine...after spending abuot 15 minutes crying I had went to the drugstore and got some cortisone and applied it to my scalp. Then today I bought some Aloe Vera so hopefully that will help. My scalp is still a little sore, but nothing to the extent of yesterday's pain.

Well what actually happen was I tested the milk after boiling it and it was luke warm, but the honey which was at the bottom was boiling hot. So actually, I got burned by the honey and not the milk. Sorry to confuse everyone, but I was crying, typing fast and was very distraught!

Good for you that the burn was not too bad, you really have to be careful with heating things in the microwave it's really much hotter inside than on the surface. Hope you get better soon.

I did when I used to roll my individual braids on rollers and dip them. I used Vitamin E and Aloe. It was bright red and sore for weeks but it all worked out.

All the pain and drama we go through just to get our hair to grow. :nono: I can't tell you how many times I burnt my scalp with hot oil treatments, home made concoctions...flat irons, curling irons and so on. Next time don't boil the mixture. If you have to, just warm the milk up first, then add the honey. Let it sit for a few minutes and test a small amount on your inner wrist. That's the most sensitive part on you arm. If it burns, it's too hot for your scalp. Get you a Gold N Hot conditioning cap. That way you can slap all that conditioner in your hair and just put the cap on and let it marinate. After burning my scalp with my hoil oil treatment, it was a wrap for me. Be careful girl. Hope you are feeling better soon. ;)
