Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you

im new, and i'm trying the daily co-washes, a new vitiman regime (biotin, hair, skin and nails multi and my regular daily multi) and a few of the L'Oreal (lust line) products because I've had luck with L'Oreal Salon products...

if anything i'm trying doesn't work--i'll be back to post!

btw--this is a great thread!!

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you

Moni,

Not trying to be funny or anything, but what DOES work for you? It seems like a lot of the things that are raved about on the board don't help. It would be interesting to hear what your hair likes.

This really is an awesome thread!!

The products/tips my hair didn't agree with are:
- Suave Coconut Conditioner - made my hair dry
- ACV rinses - dried out my scalp and dried out my hair
- Keracare Humecto - didn't do anything for me
- Stretching out my touchups past 8 weeks resulted in a lot of breakage
- Infusium 23 - made my hair hard
- Motions lye relaxer - underprocessed my hair
- Lye relaxers in general - do not straighten my hair at all and only result in burning my scalp

Well, I guess everyone's hair is just not going to agree with the same hair care products. In the famous words of Supergirl ' Has everyone clarified lately?'

[/ QUOTE ]

I wonder if that could be the problem. I don't clarify nearly enough. Maybe too much product buildup effects how well your hair responds to other products. That's definately something to consider.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you

Yeah, if one has too much product build up, it'll most likely effect the way products work (or don't work). I've heard a lot of people say something worked after they clarified.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you

I don't know about anyone else but for me, my hair is extremely limp and hard. Also, my scalp feels like it's "clogged"...I think I might clarify tonight because it's been at least two months, and I have been using oil on my hair.

Did you take a B complex with it? A lot of people say that helps with the breakouts and even helps the Biotin to work better.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you

Alot of yall said CO washes didn't work for you

and it made ur hair too soft. I didn't know hair

could be too soft. Is that how u know ur over

conditioning? I thought the more conditioning

the better.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you

I think that hair is overconditioned when it is limp and so soft that it breaks. Maybe thats why we need to add protein regularly to prevent this.

I'm trying to find a good product line that I can stick with. I think you may be right on point.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you?

I find it next to impossible to stick to one line. The shampoo usually has sulfates (they dry out my hair) or the moisturizer will be too watery or too greasy (that's if they even have a moisturizer!).

That's the dilemma I'm having...I'm thinking about Keracare..., but I like several shampoos better than their shampoo.

I use to ONLY use products from the same line, but now I find that that's not necessary and in many cases, it's been better that I split the products that I use.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you?

I've always wanted to use products from the same line, Keracare is the closest one, but I don't really like Humecto. I'm trying to find the perfect shampoo and conditoner combination, but I haven't found that yet. Any suggestions?

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you?

I used the V05 apple shampoo followed by the conditioner. It was okay, but that shampoo is rather weak. I like the conditioner, but I have to use nearly half the whole bottle to sufficiently cover my hair. Either way, I saved some money, although that shampoo is not a keeper.

Your right Ladylibra. I came to the decision yesterday when I went to stock up on my supplies that I will be using the same line for my shampoo and conditioner however, I will have to use a different line for my daily moisturizer and setting lotion but, I feel the same line for shampoo and conditioner works best for me, they are designed to work together, I feel.

That's really hard. I used to use KeraCare products and I LIKED Humecto. Again, that shows how everyone responds differently to these products.

One product line that I used to really like was ION (from Sally's). I liked their Shampoo and Conditioners. I don't remember why I stopped using them, but I don't have any complaints with their products.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you?

Here's mine.

Infusium 23 - made it hard
Nexxus Ensure - hard hair
LeKair Cholesterol - hard hair
Henna - hard hair (may revisit this one later)
Profective anything
Optimum anything
Suave coconut
S-curl activator - couldn't make that one work and wanted it to badly.

Products that stopped working for some reason:
Pantene S&S
Elucence MB I put these aside only because I loved them so much and have to give it another chance in the future.
CON - green top. Lost the slip afterawhile. I dunno, maybe because of buildup?

Why is it that what works for one may not work for another even though we may have the same "hair type"?

Did you notice that? I was going to take a closer look at hair type/ product raves later tonight when I got home from work.

As for the CON, I would definately try a clarifying shampoo..CON works very well for me and so many others.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you?

I really don't think it's all about the hair type. Like someone else posted (a long while back), hair can be just as unique as fingerprints - no two are the same.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you?

Yep. Some may like how Elasta Mango Butter makes their hair feel, but I can't stand it. But I do love that smell.

Re: Board Recommendations that didn\'t work for you?

I don't think its just about hair type, its also to do with preference. Some people like the way a product makes their hair feel, but others may not like that. I don't like creme moisturisers because they feel heavy, but it doesn't mean that they are all bad or that they don't work.
