I can say its true for me. I live in NYC, and have only gone to Dominicans for the past 10 years or so. The only thin spot I have is right as the top of my head from all the hooded drying. I didn't have a real problem with length, and was always between APL, and BSL. If I had damage, it was from not caring my hair right. But the super hot heat of that dryer is what I think thinned out the top...the hair is even different from the rest of my natural hair. And they love jacking the heat up...like I would have to pull my head out and take a break, cause it was burning me. Then they look at you like you're a punk, and shove you back under it.

This thread is old as Methusala. But I do find that my hair does better with air drying than with rollersetting. I think it has more to do with the manipulation required for rollersetting though. I'm sure the heat plays its role, but I never really considered hooded dryers a source of damage as compared to hand held heat styling appliances.

As someone who specializes in Skin Care. I support most of what's in the original article.
Re the Hooded dryer: All that heat blowing on the scalp repeatedly for extended amounts of times has got to be damaging to the follicules and scalp. IMHO this is made worse when you factor in the chemicals used during many of the process.
Blow dryig the hair might be less damaging to the scalp, but can still be seen as more damaging to the hair than the hooded dryer.

As someone whose hair has thinned alot at the crown. I stopped using the Hooded Dryer a long time ago; it's been almost 3 years since I've texlaxed my hair also.

Two years ago I had the same convo with my Mom about her bi-weekly salon visits too. (too much heat, too long exposure, too frequently, too much thinning )
