Has anyone in the Los Angeles area had BKT applied at a salon or done it themselves?

Hey Growth Buddy! I was doing some research online and found Tonya Newman listed as someone in LA. She's pricey, though! I think you've spoken to her as she told me she travels back and forth to FL and is in LA this week.

Wow!! I went out for a few hours and came back to replies. YES!!!

Sheba1, I love you. You are just a natural at finding everything. Yes, Tonya is the lady that I spoke to. She lives in FL and flies back and forth. I'm not sure that's an option. I called lotos of those other places that you mentioned and they didn't seem too familiar with my type of hair. Ya know? Sending you hugssss. I'll call those other spots.

How funny, I've actually been to Domini Salon. These salons are very close by. Kiko Salon is right around the corner and they act like they're afraid of my hair.

LD, Girl, I love you too because you aren't even in L.A. and here you are bumping my thread. God has really given me some great sisters.

Wow, Naturaltobe, sounds like you work at this salon. Is that so? Yippee, I can check out a salon for BKT. I have a sew in, so I'll still have to wait on the treatment for a month or so. Can you PM me and tell me about your experiences. I'd greatly appreciate it. YAY!!!

Hugs back at ya! Growth buddy... that's kind of a laugh right now, seeing as how my hair....(I won't speak anything negative into the atmosphere about my hair, but you know what I was getting at.) I'm overcoming setbacks.

I'm in the research stage. Definitely interested, but I have to nurture my strands back to health before I do anything. I called the places on Laurel Canyon and Woodman. They sounded like they wanted no parts of my type of hair.

I hear you! They keep telling me that, too! If I'm to BKT, I need to relax first :spinning: And I always say, "Thank you so much for your input!" Cuz I'm thankful they didn't try to do my hair and jack it up. lol I got this. I'll do it myself.

Yodie--any updates on this?

I actually called Johnson and Guess yesterday about this. Spoke to the guy who used to do my hair a couple of years ago, but he said he wasn't familiar with BKT.

Anyone else find anyone in LA who does this on afro-textured hair?
 
Don't be discouraged! I did the treatment on my own hair and it turned out great, it's just a LOT of time and work when you have texture. I'm about 5 hours from you though...
 
I found a lady in Van Nuys who says that she has done "black" hair before. I told her that my hair is like an afro and she said that she is familiar with this type of hair.

I say do you it yourself, especially if you're a 4a/b natural. First off, it won't even really take til the 2nd treatment, most likely. And it's easy! It's really no different than doing a deep condition, blow dry and flat iron to me. :shrug: I say, just get the product and try it out.
 
I found a salon in Westwood that'll do it (for anyone who still wants the salon experience.)

I'm glad I passed on Johnson and Guess. I love my new stylist and my hair is growing again. Yay!!!
