I have definitely narrowed down the fact that biotin breaks me out in a terrible facial rash(Oh no!)....I am so sad because I really wanted to add this to my regime..I was taking 5mg tablets..I will try decreasing it to 1 mg or so...oh well..

whoa aisha, you just amde me realize this also. I didnt even think of this because I drink so much water, but I notice that my skin when touched gets so irrated in not to mention my forhead I may lessen my dosage to see how things go!

Mine too! I've always had clear skin and I didn't realize how bad my face looked until my aunt and father said something to me about it. I even had to go as far as to wear foundation to try and cover the areas that broke out. Next time I have the money I'm going to purchase B-complex vitamins which have biotin in them. I've noticed that since I stopped taking it my hair snaps off more but my face cleared up within a week so that's good.

Have you ever tried taking B-complex? When I was having breakouts taking regular Biotin...I stopped taking it for a while...and started taking a B-complex vitamin. I take Wal-mart's Spring Valley brand...and it has 25 mcg of Biotin. This amount did not cause me to break out at all. About 2 months ago...I started taking Biotin again...and I haven't had any more breakouts from it. Maybe I needed to start out with a small amount and then my body got used to it? I dunno...but if you really want to have Biotin in your regimen...try taking a B-Complex vitamin.

B vitamins suppose to work together synergistically and if 1 is taken in massive doses in isolation of the other Bs, could throw off the others (or something like that). I have been taking a B-complex for years and about 2 months ago added extra biotin (300mcg) as part of my new hair obsessed regimen. I buy 30 days supply and intend to increase that amount each time I run out so that my system has 1 month to adjust to higer dose. My next biotin pill will be 500mcg (I'm aiming for 3mg, which will take several months). I have not experienced any negative effects thus far. I think 5mg, which must be way over 1000% the recommended dose is probably too much too soon, especially if not already taking other b-vitamins to balance things out. Vitamins need each other to work effectively and when mega-dosing with 1 vitamin for targeted purpose, should start on low doses and then slowly build up to mega doses over weeks or months, otherwise the sudden massive increase in one nutrient (expecially in isolation of others) may cause problems. Your breakouts may be your body saying too much too fast.

Perhaps start over with a full spectrum b-complex and then add biotin after a week or 2 and slowly build up the biotin to whatever mega-dose over time.

I take 10 mgs and I dont get any breakouts, but I do get one painful pimple every now and then, and I realized that whenever I drink very little water one or two days in a row, this happens.

I've noticed slight break out also, but i'm not sure if it due to stress of the biotin. I'm taking 1500mcg( 1.5mg) which I think is small compared to some people who take 5mg. After I move and get settle then I'll know if its the biotin or the stress.

Biotin causes me to break out, makes my face oily and makes my periods heavy! So I don't take too much.

I tried Biotin 800 mcg and GNC nails/hair and skin but I broke out a lot . I stopped and started B complex and my skin is better now. I do know that Biotin works because for just about 3 or 5 days my nails grew a lot. Maybe I should try a pill every other day ...

The new One a Day vitamin has Biotin in it to "break down the fat" in the body. I might give it a try for both my hair and weight.

I started back up on biotin, 600mcg. I was taking it about a year ago but my skin was in really bad shape at the time and I didn't notice whether it was breaking me out or not....I know for sure now.

I have sort of a rash on my face after a week of biotin...but my nails are longer and stronger so I know it's having an effect on my body and skin.

Would taking a b-complex in addition to my multi and biotin clear me up. Or should I stop the biotin all together -- clear up and then try a lower dosage?

This is the exact same thing for me. Only Difference is I take 5mgs

 I'm taking Biotin 1000 mcg and I've been noticing that I have been breaking out along my jaw and chin area. I couldn't figure it out at first and was getting very frustrated but then decided to check in with Old Faithful - LHCF - and lo and behold Biotin may be the culprit. I think I'm going to switch to the skin/hair/nail vitamins at GNC and chill out on the Biotin to see what happens.

OMG! I stopped taking all my supplements for a littlewhile cause I couldn't figure out which one is was. I was taking soo much water I didn't think this could be it but...I've never had acne, and then all the sudden my skin was rashy. Gonna stop the Biotin ASAP!

Thanks. C

I might have to switch to a B complex instead too. I take 3000mcg of Biotin but lately I've had to pull the Retin-A back out. I'm getting bumps on my chin and forehead...dang this sucks:mad:

I was reluctant to take Biotin at first because I heard of all of the side effects. I started to take 3mg a day, and my skin didn't break out. After about 2 months, I decided to take 5mg a day, and I still have no break outs! I thought this was type weird because believe it or not...I don't drink a lot of water, and I have very sensitive skin...

I would say that one side effect that I have experienced is bad headaches. So now I take the vitamin close to when I am going to sleep. That way, I can't feel the headache!

OMG:
I was just getting ready to post this. I have been taking the 5mg botion for at least 3 months and in the past few weeks, I noticed a lot of breakouts, bumps on my chin area. They are very stubborn. I drink at least 80-100 ozs of water and I couldn't figure out what it could be. But, I started taking nioxin recharging complex and that has another 300mcg of biotin in it and my b complex has another 50 mcg. Could this be biotin overload?

I have had great results before I added the nioxin. I don't want to throw it away, I purchased two 30 day supply bottles and those things aint cheap!
Any suggestions? Thanks ladies! :)

I think this may be the cause of my recent breakouts. I have never had zits like these on my nose or chin and now they are there all the time. Like a rash. I think the biotin has to go. Add to it the fact that it causes stomach pains too. I'll just stick to my B complex and call it a day.

I've been taking the 5000mcg for a week now and I'm also getting bumps on my chin. But, the Retin-A is doing its thang. When I apply it to the bump at night, it's gone (or significantly reduced) by the next morning.

Well it was the Biotin. I stopped taking it last Sunday and 5-6 days later my face was clearing up. It's about 95% clear now.

Are any of yall drinking LOTS of water with it? You GOT to drink water, period! 5000mcg of a pill is very concentrated and I couldn't imagine the effects on your body without water...

My face has broken out really bad in the past 2 days. Now I know what it is! I've been taking 5 mg of Biotin a day. I wasn't sure if it was the Biotin or the Horsetail I just started taking.
