Has anyone used this? I am yearning for a change, but not sure what to use. from reading posts most seem to say that Bigen is very good. But is this a permanent or a semi? Would u condition and treat your hair like it is permanently colored?

Bigen is permanent. The Xpressive line has the lighter shades in it. I have Bigen Xpressive in Redd Hot Chili Pepper, but I haven't used it yet. I plan to dye my hair with it in about 7/8 more weeks after I get my tree braids out.

I would like to get a color as well and I was thinking of trying this product. I have used their "dark" line for years. The Oriental black colors my hair very very well. It covers grey too! I only have a few strands but it does the trick. It's semi-permanent not permanent. It does rinse out after time but it takes a very long time. I have used rinses and other semi-perm colors and Bigen and Adore seem to give the best results. My natural hair is very dark and hard to take so I think I may not get a great result from the red colors. I may try it though. I am anxious to see if any of the other ladies have used it.

Be careful with this... Tracy posted about it a few months ago... if I remember correctly, she said that she used it and it dried her hair out a lot... I think she said to stay away from it... I'll see if I can bump up that post... hold on...

*eta: OK, I bumped up the first post, "Bigen Xpressives" where she said she used it and she said "so far, so good" then check out her other post I bumped up, titled "my hair is fried, but...". In that post she says to stay away from the Xpressives...

Well, I read the thread and it looks like Tracy already had color on her head and decided to lighten her hair with yet some more color...and then some more color! (and it looked like she used different brands of color, too.) Seeing that that is the case, it's hard to tell if the Bigen xpressive actually caused her hair to be damaged, IMO.

I'll still try the Bigen Xpressive and see how I like it.

You're right... her hair was probably already overprocessed before she used the Bigen... Just be careful!!

The color you have also probably doesn't have as much peroxide/ammonia as the lighter blonde colors, too, so you might be ok.

Please let us know how it comes out!!

well of course there would be drying after all that color! I only use it alone and i haven't had any problems. it can be drying, i will admit that but if your taking care of your hair as far as moisturizing and all that good stuff than you shouldn't have anything to worry about. the double and triple coloring is always a no-no. you take a big risk doing that.

CCD - Bigen is NOT a permanent color. It's a semi. It's not particularly strong either (stronger than rinses - yes - if that's what you mean). It just lasts a little better and the pigment is dense enough so that it covers well.

Bigen Xpressives is permanent.

Thanks Tracy, is the Bigen Xpressives line safe for relaxed hair and would it lighten black hair a few shades well or is it best not to bother?

Personally - I don't think Bigen Xpressives is a good line for relaxed hair LD - no. The hair that I dyed with Bigen Xpressives (I only did my roots - the first 2 or 3 inches from my scalp) felt TONS worse than the hair on my ends that I had dyed over and over and over....it will lighten though. just like any standard permie color. It's just really harsh. As bad as Dark & Lovely IMO.

That hair is just TRASHED. It didn't kick in right way, but when it did - oh boy!!!

The regular Bigen line, is fine.

I think it's best for you not to bother with Bigen Xpressives....esp with all that wonderful growth you've accumulated.

Just to be clear - I hadn't dyed the hair at my roots over and over. The length is the portion that was repeatedly dyed and it STILL feels better than the hair I dyed with Bigen Xpressives.

I also use Bigen REGULAR, the semi-perm, and it's fine. It's the Xpressives line I had trouble with.

You all do what's best for you, but I just wanted to make that clear that beyond a shadow of a doubt - it was, in fact, the Bigen Xpressives that caused my hair to react badly. Not the previous coloring. How do I know? Because the rest of the hair that wasn't touched by Bigen is ok now. That hair, still, is not. It may have just been the way MY hair reacted to it. But I doubt it. But anyhoo...

Good Luck to all!

Ooooh Tracy **hand up** one other question about the regular Bigen line. Did you use a colour to lighten your hair, if so how did it work out? I realise that this line is a semi perm dye.

smile.gif

No the regular line won't lighten love. It's a semi-perm deposit only (which means "darkens the hair only") color (and I think that's part of the confusion here. The Bigen and the Bigen Xpressives line are NOT the same formula).

Do you not have Textures and Tones in your neck of the woods, honey?

I think that's your best bet. It's the only permie color (still!) that I recommend. Maybe the Light Golden Brown?

Really....oy....

Well - maybe the Bigen Xpressives will work for you then? It's possible. I don't think so...but anything's possible.

What happened when you used T&T?

Oh no....well...I wouldn't do any more color then...
But if you're feeling brave

maybe the Bigen Xpressives would work better...

I'm glad I read this because this confirms that I made the right choice, I think.

Today, I was in the hair color aisle of Walmart for over an hour, debating between Bigen Xpressive and Textures & Tones.

I wanted to see a full picture of hair on the front of the box of Bigen Xpressive and they had a cartoon character with a crazy ponytail.
look.gif
I wanted to see what the color really looked like, instead of the color swatches on the side of the box.

Anyway, I bought the Textures & Tones in Bronze. So we'll see.

Pray for me please.

Thanks for your reviews

I'll pray for you, but I'm sure you'll like it. I've used that color and Lindy does as well.
