I have seen & read some reviews about Bigen. Can I just have them all in 1 post  Another product I'm interested in.

I have used it and never had a problem with it. I only use it a few times a week, because the hair around my edges is a lighter color than the reast of my hair. I have used it to even my hair out.

Since I have been using henna, I stopped usign Bigen, but it has always been great for my hair.

Some are allergic to the PPD in the Bigen, but I have never had a problem.

For me, the Bigen (blue/black) was pretty easy to use, and I plan on using it again, but b/c of the potential issues re: PPD I'm seriously considering the henna/indigo (esp. from what I've read here a/b henna's benefits).

I want to try this so bad but The PPD is making me think otherwise.. I already use henna but I am tired of buying items online, so I haven't used the indigo yet.

I've used it a few times and didn't have good results. No matter what color I used it came out pitch black! I prefer Water Works which you can get at Sally's.

I was just looking at Waterworks the other day! What differences do you find and how does it make your hair feel? I use henna, but get it sent by my mom from NC and really don't want to order indigo of the net or ask her to look 4 it, so I'd been thinking about going back to a commercial dye and still use my henna. But the PPD % was an issue 4 me.

I use the Oriental Black and it is the best commercial dye that I've used. I want to try the Blue Black next :) .

I love Bigen Oriental Black. It's not harsh at all on my hair and it leaves it really shiny. I use it around the same time I get my relaxer touch-ups, which is about every 8-10 weeks.

I haven't used it in say the past 2 years, but I used to use Oriental black, and I liked it. Very easy to apply and after deep conditioning your hair feels soft and strong after the application. I'm fighting the urge to pick up a box...no more dyes is on my to do list for this year.

Chayil

I used either the medium or dark brown and my hair came out very black.

the color faded though. in a few months i had my light brown ends again.

Ok, can someone explain PPD to me. I'm lost on that one  no laughing either

No laughing, it's serious enough for me to never risk using Bigen again. I posted this a couple months ago on the thread about Deepest Jet Black Rinse. "...From other product reviews I've read, people use it for 20 years with no reaction, others use it 3 times and the 4th time there's a rash and others use it once and develop a severe allergy. I won't be using it again *sniff*, it's not worth the risk for me." I LOVED the Bigen hair color, and swore up & down I'd never use anything else until I read the reviews.

I also posted this from a site I found:
You may want to know that Bigen is mostly pure PPD (para-phenylenediamine) and contains more PPD than what is allowed according to FDA recommendations (why it's still sold in the US is beyond my comprehension).

Allergic contact dermatitis from para-phenylenediamine in Bigen® powder hair dye.
Ho, S. G. Y.; White, I. R.; Rycroft, R. J. G.; McFadden, J. P.. Contact Dermatitis, Aug2004, Vol. 51 Issue 2, p93, 2p; DOI: 10.1111/j.0105-1873.2004.0396f.x; (AN 14418458)

Bigen Hair dye has a 12.5% PPD content, and may cause severe allergic reactions. 6% is the maximum allowed by FDA law. According to the article above, Dose–time relationships for elicitation of contact allergy to para - phenylenediamine., .01% is sufficient to cause an allergic reaction. quote taken from this page http://www.hennaforhair.com/ppd/ppdreaction/medarticles.html

For more info on PPD and potential problems with it have a look here http://www.hennapage.com/henna/ppd/ppdmed.html and here http://www.hennaforhair.com/ppd/index.html Both pages link forward to further, peer reviewed medical information about it.

Gonna look into henna when I color again.

No breakage, no fading, and shiny hair! I'm a happy camper! Oh, and I use Oriental Black.

Ditto to all of this!!! But I had to use 1 and a half boxes because one wasn't enough for my big head, plus I'm natural!
