Bigen hair color

Please do a patch test as there is no black color I can use without having a reaction to ppd. Had to go to the derm. had to take prednisone and get some injections.

Thanks. I'm not even gonna try it out of fear. Stick with what i know. My Dark & Lovely or my Clairol Rinse.

I hope others do a patch test.

Question for you ladies: I am looking to get a purple tint in my hair for the spring/summer, but nothing permanent. Do you think I could take my Bigen in oriental black and mix it with a rinse, say purple rage from Adore, to get the rich purple results I'm looking for?

@Questforhealthyhair - I love the Oriental Black! I tried the Blue Black and didn't get the results I thought I would, although my hair still turned out rich and wonderful! :lick:

Wow, my mom has used this for years but I didn't realize it was that popular. Now I want to try it because I don't like the reddish tent from the henna anymore.

This dye has more PPD in than is allowed it most countries and it is well above the level set as "safe" by the FDA. I encourage those around me to not use it and seek out healthier alternatives; however, to each her own.

Thank you for this

You've helped me make a big decision today...

thanks as well. Wanted to try this but thinking i might just wait and go buy some henna. i just want to color my ends cause they look horrible and i want to camoflauge them while i work on improving the health of my hair.

I used Bigen for YEARS I mean YEars (10+) Last year I stopped first off, My color wasn't lasting it was brown instead of oriental black within 3 weeks of applying it. It says permanent on the box but Semipermanent in the directions and always has had this misconception.

I switched to Revlon Color Silk #10 and I haven't had any issues with brown spots or brown patches, it is black all the time :D

I still haven't gotten up the courage to try a Bigen. But these frequent rinses are a hassle. Hmph. lol

I'd just use a purple rinse on its own. I've never used Bigen, but when I did dye my hair black, nothing else showed. It was like a black hole of color. I'm pretty sure a planet was sucked into my hair.

I'd think it would be easier to mix a little bit of a black rinse with the purple rinse to control how deep you want the purple to be without having to worry about it just being black.

It's interesting that some are saying it's extremely safe -gentle even - while others say it's extremely dangerous. scary

heading to Sally's or ordering Robert Craig very soon...:look:

Re: Bigen hair color (now Manic Panic)

(I love Bigen, too! Maybe I just don't use it often enough to suffer any adverse affects from it. Plus I REALLY DEEP CONDITION after applying it, so that helps, and don't wash it too soon or often afterwards to let it "rest" a bit.) :ohwell:

I use to use Bigen. It's PERFECT for a person who wants jet black hair permanently and not having to deal with messy rinses on the regular. I never experienced any allergic reactions nor any breakage to my hair. The only con I would give is that it seemed like my hair wasn't as shiny looking, which was especially noticeable to me when I was growing out the color.

I read some of the reviews and now I'm terrified. I've never had an allergic reaction to anything before though.

I want to use it to dye my hair tomorrow because every other permanent/semi-/demi-permanent black dye washes right out! I want my hair jet black & I want it to stay jet black even after I wash it.

Damn...

Bigen, just like MOST permanent hair dyes, contains PPD. Bigen just contains a LARGER amount since it doesn't use ammonia and such. So some ppl may be slightly allergic to PPD but can use regular dyes but not Bigen. But for those that ARE allergic to PPD, it usually causes SEVERE reactions. So for those that are NOT allergic to PPD at all, Bigen is safer than other hair dyes (no ammonia, conditioning properties etc.). But those that are allergic usually have extreme reactions and would be better off w/ a regular dye. Reviews on Folica have new and old users that developed reactions bad enough to end up in the hospital. I don't think PPD itself is bad for you though, not like a carcinogen (i don't THINK) or anything. But it's just like peanut butter, COMPLETELY safe for those that aren't allergic, but SOME have a mild reaction, and then some are DEATHLY allergic to it and end up in the hospital too. Peanut butter is not bad or "dangerous" (except to those it could kill), it just needs to be tolerated by the body. So I say don't be afraid of the product itself because it really is a safer/less damaging alternative, but do a strand/skin allergy test first. As long as you're not allergic you'll be fine and it is the better option. Hope that put it in better perspective for those of you that heard it's "dangerous." That's the reason ppl say this but anyone can be allergic to anything, PPD is just a popular thing that ppl happen 2 be allergic to like PB.

Permanent black hair dye washes out of your hair?!? Dang lady, your hair is not playing with you! Is it just black or other colors?
