I am sure most of you ladies know, but I guess I am reminding myself, but there are some medications that will cause your hair to become dry, brittle, shed, etc. I went finally went to the doctor yesterday to have a look at my thumb which has been swollen (huge) for the past week. The doc said it was some kind of infection and then prescribed antibiotics - 3 tabs a day for 10 days. I haven't gotten the prescription filled yet and if I didn't think my thumb would rot off from the infection and if it didn't hurt so bad, I wouldn't get it filled.
The last time I took antibiotics was about 3 years ago for a sinus infection. At that time I was going to the salon once a week and had a great stylist. I wrapped my hair nightly and saw very few hairs come out daily (less than 10 probably). My hair was past BSL and in it's best shape, so you can imagine my surprise and shock when I all of a sudden started seeing a lot of hair in my comb. I freaked out. I was so scared and started really getting nervous. I called her and told her immediately. Unfortunately I couldn't go to see her that week so I had to go 2 weeks with this happening. When i finally did go there, she started going down the checklist. The first thing she asked me about was medications. I told her about the antibiotics and she said that was the culprit. She gave me a deep conditioner and told me that antibiotics make your hair dry and brittle and when it's that way it is so much easier to come out, so keeping it moisturized is a must.
You all probably knew this already about antibiotics, but I am just saddened b/c I just finally got shedding issues under control (came out of nowhere a couple of weeks ago; did an Aphogee treatment and everything was back to normal).....
I'll go and pick up the prescription tomorrow, but don't know if I should CW every day to keep it moisturized or just try not to even manipulate it that much anyway (poo and con once a week)
