Best way to see new growth?

This is a hugely stupid question, but what is the best way to tell if you have new growth: when your hair is flat ironed, roller set, wet, or air dried?

I ask because I thought I was sure of how much growth I had, but it seems like a different amount everyday. I have a very mild relaxer in my hair (I guess this is texturized?) and my relaxed texture is pretty much the same as my natural texture with some very slight differences. My hair is roller set at the moment, and every day my new growth length looks different (longer one day, shorter the next.) I exercise often and can't tell whether the sweat near my scalp is just making my relaxed hair look like natural growth or whether it's actually new growth.

So after my next wash, how should I wear my hair to best see the new growth? Or should I examine my hair while wet?

Not a stupid question =)

I can tell on my hair ng when it is air dried and I can actually see it. I am 5 months post at this very moment=) I can feel and see my ng b/c when I bun my hair now it is very thick and wavy. Plus when I put my hair oils on my scalp my I can really feel my new growth.

I would say any method is good (I use freshly flat ironed hair) just stick to the same method each time and take photos.

to be honest i really dont know. If ur saying ur texturized hair looks similar to ur ng...then its prob. harder. I mean..the hair closest to ur scalp would be ur ng depending on how many weeks post. So maybe u could compare that texture to the rest in its airdried...non-manipulated state. idk..just throwing something out there.

I agree with the air dry method. There would have to be some sort of visible difference at that point. Then again I guess it would depend on how long you have been transitioning.
