Best Things You Did For 2009

For me it’s been the following :cloud9:;
- Finding my staples and a regimen that works for my hair
- Deciding to go natural
- Hair Steamer
- ACV as a final rinse.
- Black Jamaican castor and avocado oil.
- Natural Shampoo bars.

BKT, airdrying, curbing my PJism. Oh, and becoming a paying member so I can be part of the conversation.
 
The best things I did for my hair this year were:
  • BC'd
  • Decided to weave it up and leave it alone
  • Realize that I can't always do the same things or use the same products that other people do. I have to just pay attention to my hair.
 
1. Commit to long term transitioning
2. Using natural products and avoiding cones
3. Henna (for strong strands and covering my grays :) )
4. Mastering the art of a proper pre-poo
5. Achieving moisture/protien balance = no breakage
 
Um where do I start ???:rolleyes:

Okay so I became a bit of a PJ but seriously my list is kinda endless:

1. Finally paying my subscription to LHCF and coming out of lurkdome.
2. Discovering CERAMIDES!!! It was one of the first threads I read and seriously it was also the missing link for my hair.
3. Bi-monthly steam treatments. I am thinking of buying a steamer (space permitting) and switching it up to weekly.
4. Weekly DC's
5. Remembering to take my liquid multivit most days.
6. MSM
7. Fish Oils !!! (these also help my mental well being/ balance as well). I have now switched to a PURE EPA formula and my what a difference !!!
8. Nexxus Therappe & Nexxus Humectress (the new cone heavy version - I know some of you ladies don't like it). Next I plan to try Silicon Mix.
9. CON shampoo.
10. TRANSITIONING !!!

ETA: How could I forget?

11. DISCOVERING NATURAL PRODUCTS & AYURVEDA
12. Learning about the different types of growth aids



Okay so there is probably more but I will stop there before I bore you all....:rolleyes:

-I stop detagling with conditioner... Since I have fine strand I detangle with a light spritz or with oil = happy hair

-adding oil rinses

-discovering argan oil

- protective styling has helped with retaining length

2009 was a healthy hair year for me....hopefully I can see lots of lenth in 2010....fingers crossed!
 
* Detangling on dry hair before co-washing
* Low manipulation (co-wash and re-twist every 14 days)
* Daily health smoothie
* Baggying my ends at night
* And most recently, I stopped parting my hair for my twists and switched to the grab and twist method

Taz.... do tell more about ceramides!! I have never heard of this and want to hear about the benefits, brand, what's it's done to your hair, how you use it....:rolleyes:
 
My BC was the best thing I've done with my hair since EVER.
Wish I would've stuck to it the first couple of time I did it.

First, I finally stopped lurking and officially joined LHCF (this was mos def a godsend!). Second, I did not use any heat on my hair the whole year. Third, I got my first real haircut in my life at Christo Fifth Avenue to finally cut off any remaining relaxed and damaged ends.

For 2010, I definitely want to step up my hair game . . . I want to be more active on LHCF, try new products and techniques, and finally have my own regimen down pat. My hair has made great progress since I got my haircut in August (I'm almost at APL stretched, for the first time in my life), and I hope I can eventually get to MBL and beyond!
 
The best things I did for my hair this year were:
1. Trimming was the absolute best thing I did for my hair! :grin:
2. Started using MTG
3. Started using Coconut Oil
4. Protective Styling
 
The best thing I ever did for my hair was put it away.... It was very hard at first but it helped me to listen to what my hair needed. Ive finally got a good regimen, found my staple products, and I got a good 2 inches of thick healthy newgrowth.:lick: Im 21 weeks post and highly considering relaxing for christmas(after lusting over my sister's re-touch:rolleyes:), but if I can resist the urge im going to stretch indefinitely.:look:

I tried Biolage Cera-Repair Hydratherapie as I was having dryness issues and it made my hair like BUTTER! I also use Mizani H20 nighttime treatment.

I now mix it in my Joico Intense Hydrator w/EVOO and pretty much have zero breakage and my hair is no longer dry (I use a no-lye relaxer)

The best things I did for my hair in 2009 were myriad. I joined in 2008, but I started my real journey after my BC.

So...


  • Finding that shea butter could be used on hair. Who knew?!?!:blush:
  • Finding that cocoa butter can be used on hair. Who knew that either? lol :blush::blush:
  • The BC. It was freeing, and the journey is still amazing to me...
  • Taking pictures of my hair. I never even CONCEIVED of progress pics. Now...if I could just post...:sad:
  • Participating in discussions here. The Kiyafizzle can be modified a little, and I would have never known if I had never participated. I really was terrified of what kinds of reactions I would get, having never really been a consistently active member of a forum (tried a mommy board but fell off....)
  • Learning to do twists. Twists are my permanent style until I reach my desired length. Braids = too hard and take too long for me.
  • Dusting my ssk's (single strand knots) only. Trims are no good for me since I am aggressively growing. I could care less about shape until I get to BSL...Lord willing...man, I want to get there...
  • Keeping a high level of emotional/spiritual health and understanding that my hair should be a reflection of how much I appreciate the life/body that God has given me.
I am sure this list is longer, but I will keep it short.

Doing brown gel protein treatments weekly. It is weird I know, but it works in sooo many strange ways. Single best thing
