Best techniques for elongating/ defining curls

I did search and didn't seem to find much.
Preferably techniques that don't rely on particular products.

Planning on wearing my hair curly from July - October (Which will be a first EVER) so I need all the tips I can get!

Napp So you take your twist down damp and your hair doesn't frizz?

frizziness when doing this technique depends on what products i use and how much i fluff it while its wet

I used silicone based serum...which many here don't approve...you know the cones are bad campers.
