So ladies...

I've noticed that ever since NJoy shared with us her AMAZING results from her reggie, lots of us are embracing the idea of making our own sulfur based serums. My question is which oils are you using for your mixture? I'm still a novice when it comes to the different oils so I'll take all the help I can get.

well i used a bunch of oils in my mix...including ayurvedic oils and african royale hot six oil bc that has alotta great moisturizing oils. you should stop by the sulfur challenge and get some ideas :yep:

I'm actually in the 2010 Sulfur challenge and still can't decide. Sad huh? :lachen: I wanted to get a sulfur reggie figured out before joining the 2011 challenge. I used Bee Mine for 2010. Ready for my own mix in 2011.

I think it would just be a matter of preference, but I wouldn't use an EO, I'd use a carrier oil like castor or jojoba.

Question though...do you think this would be any different than using a premade sulfur oil? Don't they all use the same kind of sulfur?

 girl this is where being a pj comes in handy! i just went in my stash and threw stuff together! the idea, i think, is to stick with oils that are highly moisturizing because that sulfur will dry the heck out of your hair! so in combination with weekly dc-ing and moisturizing, i make sure my mix itself is moisturizing...

yeah you're right about using carrier oils..i think most people are using EO just for fragrance to combat that sulfur smell.... and as far as everyone using the same sulfur, i think people are having success using sublimed sulfur but you know what, i used this sulfur oil from the dollar store a while ago and that worked pretty good!

I use peppermint, rosemary, jojoba and clove oils. My sulfur powder hasn't come as yet so right now I'm just using the oil mixture.

I don't think it would be a drastic change, but it's just something I wanted to try. I like Bee Mine, but wanted to see what kind of results I could get from my own mixes. Plus it'll be easier and cheaper to make my own than ordering those big bottles all the time

would yu apply it to your scalp or your hair.?

iuse it in leave-ins on my scalp alone and its niice =)

I was thinking of using coconut oil with rosemary and lavender EO. I read that coconut oil penetrates the hair and is moisturizing.

I have Sulfur 8 but recently ordered sublimed sulfur from Rite Aid to make my own mix. Sulfur 8 has 2% sulfur and I want to make a 10% mix. I used to use Pomada de Azufre which has 10% but it's gritty and drying. I think the coconut oil base will be better. God knows best though.

Ah, the sulfur smell... :perplexed lol, that stuff smells!

I meant that isn't sublimed sulfur the same sulfur in stuff like MTG and Bee Mine? This one, right? Amazon.com: Humco sulfur sublimed powder USP - 12 oz: Health & Personal Care Not like Sulfur 8 pomade...not saying that doesn't work but I've never used it. Just double checking!

LOL, oh this site, I wanna make my own now...I love how MTG works but I HATE the carrier oils they use! And I love Bee Mine but I don't think it is as potent.

ive always used it with olive and coconut oil with rosemary and peppermint oils added. I also started mixing in jbco too.

i plan on making a mix of half vatika oil( coconut), 25% JBCO & 25% bhringraj or amla oil...i want the coconut oil in the vatika to solidify the mixture so i can "grease" my scalp with it...i already melt out my vatika oil into a container i can dig in and then let it solidify back up and then use it like grease, and i've mixed it with castor oil before and it still had a nice thick creamy texture...does the oil have to be used in liquid form?

anybody know where to get soem REAL Brahmi and Alma oil from.?:look:

All the ones iserach end up having mineral oil and stuff added.. or they dont ship to the US.!!:angry2:

When i used sulfur i liked using some JBCO mixed with coconut oil. To me this mix wasnt quite as greasy and absorbed a bit better.

Yes, you can make your own!
I bought this one Amazon.com: Sulfur Powder Sublimed - 4 Oz / Pack: Health & Personal Care

It set me back less than $5, including shipping!

I know this is an essential element for hair growth when taken internally (thus, I take MSM) but I haven't used it yet because I don't fully understand how externally applied sulfur is supposed to do anything for my hair/growth rate. Until I understand, I won't mix.

WARNING: Be extra careful with powdered sulfur. Don't inhale it, don't get on your skin or eyes! Mix a little bit with oil (it's insoluble in water) to make a paste then proceed with your concoction.

P.S. Any references (not just anecdotal) that would answer my question appreciated.

what kinda MSM powder is this.?? :perplexed are yu not allowed to drink it too.??
iadded some regular MSM pwder in some of my drinks and leave-ins noo problem:look:

MSM is different than sublimed sulfur - This is a little scary though...

MSM Sulfur vs. Sulfur

Wow. That was scary.

I had issue with this statement though:

Many people, especially African-Americans, refer to sulfuric acid as sulfur, so when they hear about MSM sulfur, they ignorantly equate MSM sulfur with sulfuric acid which did many of them tremendous harm.

I don't think AA's are the main group to ignorantly make this mistake.

SMH I didn't even see that...
