I already had decided that this time was the last time for my hair dresser of 2 years. I only go for relaxers but the service was good. Last couple of times it has been downhill. Time before this I waited 3 hours to start and wound up with under processed hair. I started looking for a new salon and I think have found one. I had one last touch-up yesterday, ONLY BECAUSE I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH HER ACTUAL WORK, thought that was a one time slip-up. She knew she was wrong last time so she had me out in 3 hours. Good but I was still done with her. I walked out never expecting to go back.
THIS MORNING I woke up with

hard matted hair.

It is like it is super jelled,

I can't comb it. I always put carrot oil on the ends before I wrap it. That wont do this! The hard matted parts are no more than 2 or 3 inches from my head, WHERE RELAXER WAS!!!!!
I called her and she asked me did I sweat. SWEAT?!?

What that got to do with the price of tea in China?

She said come in and she will take care of it.
Somebody say somthin to me! Have you had it happen before and tell me it is not relaxer!

I haven't the foggiest idea.... The only "matting" I recall seeing is when my scalp would burn and the hair'd stick together and onto my scalp after a touch up (during my relaxer days). Sorry I don't have any suggestions or ideas, but just wanted to say, I'm fuming with you. I'd be ablaze too if it happened to me.

I'll be interested to hear her explanation...if you get one.

OH MAN!! Definitely go back there and make her do something!! It sounds like she either didn't wash the relaxer out properly, or else your scalp scabbed up pretty badly... Is your scalp sore???

Good luck and keep us posted on what she does and how you're doing!!!

Yes, I've experienced this also. I didn't lose any hair from it, but, I did use a good moisturizing hair lotion and comb my hair very gently and washed it a few days later. Actually I've had this happen on more than one occasion, by the way, this shouldn't happen but, yet in still I have experienced it with no hair loss or breakage.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Only time my hair matted is if I my scalp burned and the relaxed hair stuck to my scalp. Maybe she didn't rinse all the relaxer out. I don't know what to tell you but you definitely need to have the problem corrected.

Re: Before I have a fit, HELP!

I'll let you know. The thing is, it is not even on my scalp. It is like a inch down. No sores on my scalp. It hasn't even been 24 hours! I burned a little at the end and that was when it was washed out. I really think it is relaxer still left in my head.

Re: Before I have a fit, HELP!

Yeah it sounds like relaxer is left in your head, especially if it's not on your scalp. I thought you were saying that the hair stuck to your scalp. Wash your hair with a neutralizing shampoo to make sure you get the relaxer out.

Re: Before I have a fit, HELP!

Ladies thank you for the words. You know I appreciate it. I know what you mean about sores. I have had scabs appear a couple of days later but this was 12 hours and they were not even on my scalp they were on the hair shaft. If I try I can break them apart and it looks like something dried up . It is not on the ends or even 6 inches down it is only where relaxer was. All with in 3 inches or so.
I really want to hear what she has to say to. I hope all it takes is anothe wash with neutralizer.

I think you're right... that's what it sounds like. You're lucky; at least your scalp isn't irritated!!! But don't EVER go back to her again after this!!

Re: Before I have a fit, HELP!

You know how they say listen to your gut. The last time I went I felt that our time was over. I was seriously looking for salons. I got the recs but was trying to ease into it. Now.......here I go.

Re: Before I have a fit, HELP!

Maybe it's just a tangle she didn't comb through or a sticky conditioner that she didn't rinse out fully. Relaxer left on hair for hours would dissolve it.

To be safe, I'd neutralize and detangle on my own. Your stylist will catch an attitude and rip through the matted areas in a huff if you go back with a complaint...

Re: Before I have a fit, HELP!

I thought about that. I am not buying neutralizer for one incident. She will wash and I will comb.
I have had relaxer left in before, long time ago, maybe 10 years and it it didn't dissolve. I was informed that once the product is dried it is deactivated. It was not this extreme though.
Now that I think about it though, there never was a comb through. I had Affirm so the conditioner was applied then the neutralizer. My hair actualy looks good just some part are stuck.

Re: Before I have a fit, HELP!

Thanks to everyone for listening. Kinda gross but......
She did my hair for free. She said it was pus and only in one spot. There is a sore coming and the pus made the hair hard. I didn't base before I went. I don't know what I was thinking. They did do it but never as good as I do. I haven't burned in years.
You were right it was a sore. You were right my hair itself is fine. I was trying to switch to lye. No lye has been working. If it ain't broke...........
My hair actually is looking really good. I have learned my lesson. BASE!
Thanks again.

I almost had to treat myself to a hair product but I'm on the challenge, I had the bottle in my hand!

Re: Before I have a fit, HELP!

I smelled a bottle of Lavender Avalon Organics at the supermarket. It really was calming. It is on the list. If my hair was damaged in any way it would have be on.
Thanks Again.
