Does anyone with natural hair style it by using Bees Wax? I was wondering... Basically, I remember having pretty good results with my hair when I had put some sun block lotion on it (purchased in Jamaica on vacation) and braiding it up. The texture changed signifcantly (braid-out I guess). I cannot remember the ingredients but I do remember that it had a kind of waxy feel. BTW, I had read that when in the sun for extended periods of time, it would be best to put sunblock in the hair to protect it

I had attempted to set up an appointment with a beautician to texturize my hair. She was not available but my mom told her of my situaition. The beautician said that she would not have texturized it

and suggested that I try bees wax...

Anywho, any info on the bees wax would be most graciously appreciated

Hi Mufasa, m'idol!

I don't know anything about beeswax but just wanted to say hi (long time no see!) and I'm glad you aren't texturizing (yet?). I love your hair as it is.

Mufasa, I see a lot of references of bees wax in relation to dreds. From a quick Websearch, I gather that it gives hair a nice shine. I did find it used in a recipe to make a hair oil: Hair Oil Recipe

Just be careful of buildup if it's non-water soluble wax (which I would guess it is) you might need to clarify every once and a while to remove it.

Greetings

Nonie: Thanks for the pointer. I have heard of bees wax but did not know how to use it properly

I only have not texturized now because I was still gathering info. Just need to find the time

I heard that the Affirm Fiberguard was OK - so, I would go with that. I am hoping that natural methods/styles would also apply to texturized hair though. Either way, I still would like to try the bees wax

Hope you are having a good time with your hair

Spagirl: Thank you for the info. Should I head that way, I will keep an eye out for product build-up.

Mufasa, good luck, please let me know when you decide to texturize I can't wait to see the results although I do love your hair as it is, I'm getting mine done early next year when I've reached my goal.

All beeswax could possibly do is weigh down your hair.

Hmm...

I wonder if that's what the beautician thought Mufasa is trying to achieve.

You know, weigh her hair down so that it hangs lower and appears longer, instead of being fluffy.... Then with the shine... <ul type="square">If it hangs like a duck (silkener), shines like a duck (silkener), moves like a duck (silkener).... who'll know it isn't one?

But would it really be easier to manage than the hair without the wax??? Methinks not - but what do I know? Good thing is, it isn't permanent so it can always be washed out if it doesn't work out.

So Mufasa, you gonn' be our guinea pig?

Just don't you DARE mess up that hair. (And that's an order

)Test it on a pencil-thick section of your hair in the back.

I use to use bees wax on my twists. My twists looked very good using it. I am considering using bees wax again in the winter to protect my hair from the cold. I find that using a product that has petroleum in the winter protects my hair from shedding. I remember that eons ago when I used green dax on my hair in the winter I did not shed. When I did not use the dax my hair shedded. Bees wax is like that but does not smell as strong as the green dax.

beeswax may work, but any heavy pomade probably will provide the same effect. if you are looking for more natural products, try a shea butter pomade.

Maybe you could try Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey - it has beeswax in it. I typically only use it for shine. I just apply a little bit to the top part of my hair a couple of times a week. But, I've read of many people who use it for braidouts.

I used to use Dax Wave n Groom to do my twists about a year ago but like someone said, watch out for buildup. I don't use it anymore, I prefer shea butter.
