So now I realize that the things I learn here I should just keep to myself... I went to the beauty parlor/salon yesterday.... This girl is about to get hair wrapped... I see her pulll out one of those COTTON joints... Picture follows... I just kept thinkin in head ummm thats maybe why she has a lot of split ends, and no edges... (not to be rude or anything)...

So I am sitting here like damn I should tell homie that a good investment would be a satin/silk jumpoff.... of course my word selection isnt that great when I do say something... and she just looks at me like nah I am ok... I been using this ALLL my life... now mind u, she just started coming to this beauty salon, and the beautician helped her grow what lil hair she does have.... ok ok... I am starting to sound bitter.... but alll I kept thinkin was stuff like: It will help kept the hair str8'er and smoother... etc...

So I learned my lesson, I will keep LHCF stuff to myself... lol...

I've learned to be VERY selective about who I share my my LHCF pearls with.
My best friend joined the forum recently, she's awesome and very receptive to the methods found her. Her hair is starting to come around already (waiting to introduce her any minute now!!)

I have some of those scarves, I use them but only ON TOP of a silk or satin one.

i had a "give some lhcf" advice moment but i knew it would get lost on the listener. you're braver than me.

i got my hair weaved and i was complaining, to a family member, that the braids were too tight. this woman, who wears a twisted wig er' day and no hair to speak of underneath it, says that its good to get the braids tight because, and i quote: "the hair grows faster when the scalp is pulled".

all i could do was look left and then right then left again. because shaking my whole head would have come off as disrespectful.

:lachen: :lachen: I've learned to keep my LHCF learnings to myself too. Unless they ask directly.People ask but then don't wanna listen. But nobody ever really asks about my hair anyway. Unless they're asking about a weave or something. I guess they assume that I don't have any hair since its covered up all the time. They'll see there's a method to my madness eventually...

Thank yalll for chimin in... because I thought, hey just maybe these are making a comeback, since I seen a couple of women leave the salon with hair wrapped under...

All I kept thinking was that the oils were gettin soaked up... leaving hair dry.... and you get static hair... thats not cool.... lol

Some folks are just not open to advice. Especially advice that they THINK they already know. And for others, taking the advice of another women is just hard. Like "Oh no this ***** ain't telling me about my hair...who she thank she is?":lachen:

I've found that a "slick" way to give advice is to rave about how great something works for you. "Oh girl, I went and bought me a slik scarf recently and I just love it, it makes my hair so smooth and straight. Have you tried a silk scarf before?"

versus: "You need to stop wearing that plantation cotton scarf because it dries out you hair. Try a silk scarf."

And oh yeah, those cotton scarves are the devil indeed. My sister is addicted to them. She got them in all colors.:look:

I can relate. I have a cousin who is good at braiding hair, but sometimes she does braid too tight. I haven't let her braid my hair in a while, but I told her I may want some braids soon. And I made sure to tell her that sometimes she can braid tight and I don't want that. She said she had been told that before and that she has no problem adjusting how tightly/loosely she braids (but I'm still hesitant). She knows now that that is why people end up bald around their edges and the hair starts breaking off badly. I think you can try to correct someone and still be respectful in the way that you do it. I have learned to respect my hair, others MUST respect it also or they will not get near it. Because I love my family members a lot, I am open and honest with them in a respectful, but straight way. I told my cousin the other day that her daughter's hair has been breaking badly and that I think it's all those perms and braids. Her daughter had beautiful thick long hair until she was about five when she was given a perm. My cousin thought it was just a way to manage her hair easier. My cousin seemed to be listening as I was trying to tell her about the TLC basics for relaxed hair, but i don't think she really was.:ohwell: When my daughter's natural hair is almost WL when she gets to be about 2/3-years old, she may wished she would have listened to me more (With wet hair and stretched, my baby's hair is pretty much APL and she just turned 1). All I do is try to share my advice (precious LHCF tips) with my loved ones who will listen, I don't really share with strangers unless they ask. I think they will REALLY pay more attention when my own hair gets close to APL by the end of this year. LOL...I can't wait til they're calling & lining up to ask me my regimen.

These scarves are made of 100% cotton and what does cotton do.."ABSORB"..absorb all the moisture from your hair..too bad she wasn't receptive to your advise, she'd be so much better off

These damn scarves are what brought me to LHCF in the first place.

I HATE those things!!!! They are only good for dusting furniture!!!!!

Girl I agree with you. I have sisters and they are natural (but the baby has a perm and she lies about it for some reason, but ya'll I can tell a relaxer vs. natural hair - I mean come on!) and they do not practice LHCF techniques. They know I belong to a hairboard, but I don't give them the name on purpose because they do NOT care to know the truth. Now I admit my one sister is getting better at healthy hair techniques through trial and error but she won't let me tell her nothing so I don't try. They can just watch my hair get healthier and longer...

I learned this because I did originally try to share things and I got laughed at. I am not joking. I mentioned conditioner washes and my sister laughed like "no shampoo, girl please." - so her hair and scalp is dry as sand but there you go. I don't share unless asked and even when asked I'm discerning and sometimes vague.

Now I can talk hair all day with complete strangers and get along with them just fine. (wow)

When I go to the BSS, it's ignorance all around. I was in the relaxer aisle one day, and a lady picked up a tub of something and told her friend, "This is that new one that you don't wash out."

:lachen: :(
I am feeling two different emotions right now. On one hand I am dying laughing. On the other hand, I feel real bad for the friend if she listens.

"the hair grows faster when the scalp is pulled".

StartinOvah - That quote has me cracking up  . I've never heard anything more foolish   .

Just wondering today...What's going to happen once Michelle {Lace Flair Phoney Pony}
mentions LHCF when she appears on OPRAH? Will the board be able to bear the traffic? I kinda feel many will come in, stick around for a while then leave when there is no instant hair growth. Just wondering.
