Beautician Loyalty: Need Feedback Please

Hello ladies,

I have been with my beautician for a few years now and I

absolutely loved the way my hair would look and feel when

I stepped outside the salon. Many thought I was sporting a

wig, because my hair bounced, was shiny and was just plain

healthy and needless to say, I rather enjoyed the

attention. (often wondered if I was vain for enjoying the

attention
confused.gif
) Well, my beautician and I have a

really nice rapport. Well, last October, I received a touch-

up, which was kinda long overdue, shortly afterwards, I

noticed some of my hair had come out on one side in the

front. I've always had rather thin edges, so I didn't panic

and felt well, I can cover that up, like I always have in

the past. Well, a couple of weeks later, a family member

was scratching the back of my head and asked me if I knew I

had some breakage, I was like, "no, I knew I had a little

on one side around the edges." You mean you tell me, all

along I had been walking around with long and short hair

and didn't even notice it? My hair had just completely come

out at the time of the touch-up and I didn't notice, I

suppose because there was still some long hair strands

covering it up, but at the time I was getting my scalp

scratched, it had already grown out a little bit, in which

I was able with her guiding my hand to reach back and grab

a few short strands. Y'all when I tell you I was

devastated, I mean I was torn

because I knew my

routine had not changed at home in all the years I had been

going to her and this had not happened before. The breakage

was on only one side of my head, and when I notified my

beautician, she said anything could've happened, whether it

be the color lift that had taken place a couple of weeks

prior to my relaxer or the rinse that was put in that could

dry the hair and cause it to break off. I'm listening to

her and feeling all along I should be doing this

to her, because for some reason I could not help but think

she saw where my hair had come out in the back after the re-

touch and said nothing about it, so she wouldn't be held

responsible, but what do I do, I continue to go back to

her, am I
spinning.gif
or what? Well, I had to get my hair

cut off,
wallbash.gif
man, it hurts to have to start all

over, and to begin with, I had hair about 4 in. past my

shoulders. I didn't get all of my hair cut off because the

cut would have been a little too drastic for me, it seems

to take forever for layers to grow out so I opted for a bob

so it wouldn't be sooo noticeable but still have a little

breakage on the side and in the top closer to the back, so

since I can't do anything but be patient
violin.gif
what can

I do about trying to get the hair that's broken off to

catch up with the rest of the length? Also let me just

breathe a word of caution, if you can, try to steer clear

of beauticans who are always rushing so they can go

someplace else. I believe in my case, the relaxer wasn't

completely washed out on one side, which is why there was

only breakage on one side of my head, also after a retouch

or any chemical process, make sure you look at your hair

thoroughly, before you leave the shop or kitchen, because

once you leave it's really hard to prove who did what, even

if you know it wasn't you who did it. I was careless

because I let her rushing, cause me to rush, to make sure

she arrived where she needed to be on time, but keep in

mind, you are the paying customer, and it is their

responsibility to wait on you to check and see if

everything is copacetic, otherwise you might just get

hoodwinked like I allowed to happen to myself. Don't let

your trusting nature get in the way of business. Like they

say from time to time, "business is business." Now I know

what that means. Anywho, I guess I just needed to vent all

the while making sure none of you ladies allow this to

happen to your crown of glory. Even to this day, I still

can't believe I'm still with her. Guess it's loyalty huh?

Hi Dreamgurl, I am so sorry to hear about your experience.

People are meant to enter and exit in and out of our lives, so it may be her turn to exit.

You have to do what's best for you and your tresses. If she wasn't concerned about your well being, then why should you be concerned about loyalty?

I would consider finding a new stylist or banning her from ALL chemical processes.

That makes sense kitchentician.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my post. I know it was quite lengthy in text but I had a lot of built up frustration as one could tell. So you're in Atlanta, do you go to a beautician to get your hair relaxed or do you do your own? Hence the name kitchen-tician. I've found it quite difficult to find beauticians who aren't scissor happy and who actually encourage their clients to grow long healthy hair and provide proper maintenance for them.

I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience with her.

You know, I wouldn't go back. If she messed up once what'll stop her from doing it agian? Screw being loyal, she wasn't loyal to you... she screwed up your hair!

Hope that your hair gets back too it's original length soon!

Your Welcome

Yes, I do my own hair including relaxers and trims. I went to a stylist during my transition phase, but of course she turned into a "slasher" aka "heat-a-rator"

so I cut her loose.

I am really sorry that happened to you, dreamgurl.
I have two approaches; 1 to go in and let her see the damage, or 2. if you don't think you could handle speaking with her directly, I'd take photos and send them to her. I would tell her that I really think the breakage is a result of her rushing that day. I mean, you could even tell her that she had serviced you well in the past and you were happy with her services until this happened.

If she is a self confident and honest (humble?)person she will agree to give you treatments at no cost. Of course you would then have to decide you trust her enough to let her work on your head again.

I don't think I could trust her to do my hair again, despite her past work, but, she does need to realize the damage her neglect has done.

you can always decide to wear an alternate style until your hair grows back, and it will grow back!

you have the info, encouragement and support of the board to help you.

((hugs))

Awww thanks sundayschild
kiss.gif
and thanks for claiming my hair will grow back. It seems as if kitchen-tician was right...it is about that time for my stylist to exit out of my life, but me being the kind of person I am, I will still continue to talk and listen to her and give spiritual advice whenever she may need it. I think it's time to go back to doing my own hair. I am going to miss the pampering though. Oh well, I suppose I need to get my purifying shower head, so I can start washing my own hair and be at ease, at least with the water quality
