I did my own big chop after a 15 month transition but I imagine that if you went to the barber and told them to "shape it up" or "even it up" they'd understand what you were asking for. What I do know is that if you say, "line it up" they will shape up your hair line and the nape of your neck. Now, if that is not something you want, do not have them line you up! Perhaps, you can ask a male figure in your life, they are more accustomed to the terms used in a barbershop or you can check out Youtube.
