After giving it some serious thought, I have decided to get a relaxer within the next month. I have been transitioning for six months now and it has been a great journey
smile.gif
. I barely encountered any breakage due to handling my hair very gently and the great tips that I have found on this board.

Ever since I had my Dominican blowout, I guess that the seed was planted then... I loved the look of my straight hair and trying to achieve somethinglike it on my own without a relaxer is next to impossible for me. I like for my hair to flow down my back and I miss this. Having natural hair is just not me
nono.gif
. I have a good six inches of growth that I cannot wait to get straigthened out.

I had to go somewhere quickly this morning and it was such a hassle to get my hair in order
ooo.gif
. And when I was done, I still didn't like the look of it. I may be taking a trip to the beach this summer and all along I've been thinking, "how am I going to be doing my hair?" I really do not want this to be an issue. A relaxer will make my life so much easier
smile.gif
.

I am going to put myself back on my relaxer schedule of every three months. I know that healthy hair can be achieved with a relaxer and I plan to meet my hair goals with one.

To all of the transitioners on this board, good luck on your journey and thanks for being a great help during my transition.

Wow! I've always loved looking at your avatar (your sis) and if your hair looks a lot like hers then it is BEAUTIFUL! Congrats on your endurance in transitioning and congrats on your new hair plans!

Thanks ladies! I am very happy with my decision. All of the ladies on this board show that healthy, relaxed hair can be achieved so I am looking forward to it.

@Dolce_Dawn yes, my hair looks just like my sister's but it is even thicker, if you could imagine that. I was even thinking of stopping the B5 because my hair was coming in too thick -- but a good relaxer is my solution.

Dannnnnng. Everybody is going back. My hair is also thick and I'm contemplating the same thing. I like my hair flowing and like it straight too. But I wear my hair up most of the time. I'm going to stick it out and see if I can last through this summer's heat and humidity.

Congratulations and best of luck.

Thanks. The funny thing is that I started to go natural because I always put my hair up too but I can't even put my hair up these days and have it look right. And the braidouts that I so loved to do were not looking right so all of this affected my decision.

You have my best wishes ChiChi!

I know it's hard to make this decision, but when you hit the wall, you hit the wall. I loved and was so proud of my healthy, natural hair, but it didn't work for my taste or lifestyle. I'm debating getting my texturized hair straightened a little more, so I can really wash and wear. I have seen so many examples of healthy, long relaxed hair, so I know it's possible to keep it healthy AND functional.

Good luck, Chichi!

I've been transitioning as long as you have and I'm having the same dilemma.

Make sure to take pictures!

@sengschick - yes, it was a hard decision to make but I done near hit that wall

. The funny thing is that I know that I like the straight styles and I kept thinking of what I could do to straighten my hair - everything but the relaxer. I looked into flat irons, temporary straighteners, and even hot combs. Til one day it dawned on me that a relaxer would be the easiest thing to do. Let's face it, it sure makes life easy. Looks like you never really appreciate anything until it's gone

.

@MindTwister - No, that is not my sister in the avatar now.

I changed it to Sade wearing a protective style. My avatar used to be my sister with natural hair.

Thanks Bobbie.

What kind of dilemma are you facing? (that is, if you don't mind me asking...)

Girl, this is exactly how I felt, but I only had 4 or so inches. I had to work really hard and worry about just jumping in the pool and rinsing out the clorine in the shower cause it was so hard to handle for me.

Now, I don't worry about, sweat, pool, sand, beach whatever, all I have to do is shower, comb down and let it dry and NOT have to fight.

Don't feel bad, you tried and now you feel this is better for you. And you are right, Relaxers, just make life easier...

Yep, that's what I told my Aunt when she was so quick to "Big Chop", in the heat of moment...

Now she regrets it.

I have a serious amount of new growth and I like playing with it. However, I've always liked to have long hair. Also, it's not difficult for me to deal with the two textures, but I always was a fan of longer hair and I know natural hair would take more patience to achieve similar length (given shrinkage).

Also, if I was planning on straightening it once in a while anyway, a relaxer would be a simpler choice to make than using heat all the time.

And it doesn't help that my boyfriend is right behind me with a pair of scissors. He likes "novelty", as he puts it.

Dilemma, dilemma....

Anyway, I don't mean to hijack the thread. I'm really curious on what choices transitioners make.

Let us know how it turns out!

Bobbie, hope you get some resolution to your dilemma soon. But um tell the boyfriend if he likes novelty so much to cut his own hair.

Hi rowandaP,

I sooo do not feel bad about this at all - no guilt whatsoever
smile.gif
. Simply put, a relaxer is the best fit for my lifestyle. And as for your aunt who did the BC, I am so glad that I did not do that because I was waiting to see how my hair would behave. I was tempted though. I did trim off about an inch but that was my first trim in six months and my hair needed it.

Well that's a good attitude.. They tried to make me feel bad, saying - you did'nt give a chance, it'll get better, cut the relaxed ends, yada, yada, yada.

I kinda thought Iwas
nt givin it a fair chance, But deep inside, I was like

congrats on your decision..im right behind you as well. I love that I could go as long as I did without a relaxor and I really learned how to be gentle and treat my hair, but natural hair is not for me. I love having straight hair and i've found that I am a lot happier with my hair straight. I will be getting my hair done friday afternoon and I can't wait.

To all the naturals and transistiners I commend you.

chocolate01,

So it looks like I am not the only one. I can't wait to get my hair done either. How long have you been without a relaxer?

Chichi
bdance.gif

Congratulations,

I too have recently gone from being natural for 3 years to relaxed. of couse i got my hair cut as well.

Many were disappointed in me but it didn't matter. I hit the wall and unless they were going to come over to my house everyday and wash and detangle my hair(that's how ofter I washed my hair). Their advice meant nothing.

I guess since you were transitioning, you have a better memory of relaxers than I do. I had to start from a vague memory. But back on you....did you find people were disappointed in you because you have decided to relax?

So far, everyone on this board has been supportive. Like you, it is a personal decision for me as in nobody takes care of my hair but me. I think that most people realize this. Personally, I don't feel that anyone should be disappointed when a natural gets a relaxer because we are still the same just with a different hairstyle.
