Ayurvedic powders spoiled my hair!

I don't usually start threads because I get great advice already, but I need help. My hair refuses to accept anything but them now. It's like my hair is spoiled and wants to reject anything else! :( It's strange. I've been using them for about a month now with great results! My hair is strong, manageable and growing nicely. But as I read with CandyC's regimine, every month you should use a shampoo.

Before I used the products, I'd wash with CON shampoo. My hair LOVED it and it was my staple. After, my hair was so nice and smooth and I'd air dry, and pull back. Now, my first shampoo with CON after using the powders for a month or so, my hair felt terrible! I didn't do anything different than usual. :/ I even D.C with alter ego and it didn't even seem to make a difference. My hair even had a bit of breakage. It felt hard, without any real moisture I simply pinned it up and left it alone. Baggying helped a bit. I oiled. 4 days later, I went back to my Amla/shikakai/brahmi wash (I do it every 3-4 days)...

My hair went back to being SMOOTH as silk! And the alter ego made it like butter! I don't understand what's going on? Should I just change shampoos? But why when the CON worked so amazingly well before? What could be wrong? Could there be a clash somewhere? Has anyone experienced this? And can anyone else recommend any shampoo I should try? Maybe Clarifying might work? I don't know what to do, and because of the breakage I had, though slight, I'm really afraid to try it again. Thank you! :)

Innnteresting!!

I haven't encountered this, but if your hair is telling you it wants/needs a product change, I'd listen to it.... :yep:

I have been using the powders for weeks now and plan on doing my first shampoo in a couple of days. This is very interesting information and wonder what the other ladies have experienced. How long did you deep condition your hair? Maybe Candy C or someone else can answer this question. But I say if your hair is loving the powders like mines is , stick with it!

I'd been skipping my henna and indigo treatments and my hair was doing ok, but not as shiny as I like it. I did an indigo treatment a few days ago and it's all soft and shiny, it elongated my curls, it made it a rich deep color... *sigh* I didn't even realize how much I'd missed it until it was back. :ohwell:

So I guess I'm spoiled too.

CON shampoo has no laurel/laureth sulfates, which means it wont give you the clarifying you need after a month of ayurvedic treatments. Try a clarifying shampoo next time, followed by your DC and see what happens. Or, what I do sometimes after 4 weeks of amla/shikakai treatments is to use 1/4 apple cider vinegar:2 cups of water, and pour this over my head BEFORE using my CON. HTH

I experienced this also. I bought a bottle of shampoo and conditioner combo, and so of course I had to try the poo. Well...My scalp started drying out and I experienced breakage in my breakage prone area. I stopped and now my hair is back to normal. I do use the poo but dilluted and only when I see or feel buildup. I just ordered the shikikia soap and that supposed to be another shampoo substitute.

I don't know if I over do it.....lol, but I use CON, Redken Cleansing Creme, and a Shikakai/Henna gloss every wash. This way I get the moisture, clarifying, and strength. It doesn't take me long at all! I shampoo like regular, DC with the mix (with some CON conditioner in it), rinse out with two shampoos, and I'm done.

Hello ladies, I don't mean to take over the thread, but I have heard great things about the Ayuvedic powder for your hair. I would love to try it however, can you use the powder if you have braids and if so how do you use it? Also, what kind of results are you ladies having with hair growth with this product? Thanking you in advance for your answers.

WoW... you know I washed my hair this weekend with a new shampoo and HATED IT! This is after I was using a shikakai/amla rinse.... maybe this is why my hair was acting up! It felt dry and hard to detangle and everything! I'm going back to the rinse and when its time to shampoo I'll just use my shikakai shampoo bar. If my hair loves it ... I love it too!

You know what I noticed that the first time I used regular shampoo after using the ayervedic methods. I never used the powders but the Gro Aut regimen and when I first used my QP shampoos (about 5-6 weeks after starting the regimen) my hair was very dry feeling. So I decided that perhaps I should clarify more often and also amp up the type of conditioner I use. So now I use the Gro Aut reggie for three weeks a month and then clarify and use my QP regimen on the fourth week. I also add humectress as a leave in when I clarify in addition to deep conditioning with my DPR-11. I'll also sometimes use the NTM mask for 3-5 mins before my deep conditioner. Its made a world of difference. I guess it equates to a moisture thing. The ayurvedic routine is so strengthening that when you add the regular shampoo it strips even more moisture. That's just my opinion though. Or as someone else said perhaps what we are using to clarify just isn't strong enough to clean away the other products. Either way I think I found what works for me and mine. Hope you figure out what works for you and your hair.
