A customer and her daugther came in and I waited on them. She said "I bet your hair has grown a lot" (I had my hair in a bun) I was like "yes it has". She proceeded to tell me that I was her inspiration to go natural and that her daughter was going natural too! It looked like she had just BCed. She was saying that she couldn't wait for her hair to grow out and I told her it takes lots of patience, but that I didn't think she would regret it. She said she doesn't think she will regret it either.

Just thought I would share that with you guys. I felt so happy, and flattered that I encouraged somebody to take such a huge step :yep:

Here's a pic of how my bun usually looks:

Thanks for sharing it with us, I am happy to hear that you inspired someone.
Your bun looks really good.

That's so encouraging!:yep:
Sometimes when I'm out and see other naturals, I feel compelled to say something, but get tounge-tied and the moment passes:look:
Thanks for sharing your story!:drunk:

I have complimented so many natural heads on the street, I've lost count. I haven't made the decision to go natural, but I love the beauty of natural hair.

Your bun is sooo pretty!!!! I wish you made a youtube tutorial....
Not to hijack, but it really doesn't look as hard as you think. Although her edges are a LOT more sleekified :look: than mine get (I'm too lazy for alla-that lol), I wear my hair like that a lot. If you start on damp/wet hair, it's a lot easier. Cowash, apply leave-in, apply gel to edges, brush back with a Denman (in my case), make a high pony, then on the last 'loop' of the pony don't pull your hair all the way through. Scarf it for about 10-15 min if your edges aren't flat/smooth. People ask me about my buns all the time, but they're not hard at all.

OK, back on subject. Your waves are blingin', your bun looks absolutely delish, and I'm definitely doing one of those tomorrow! Glad you could be such an inspiration to her...my mom, sis and I all transitioned together so it's great to have that family support. Wish I could thank the person who inspired me to go natural. :yep:

Thank you ma'am!....

Well how about I just tell you what I do...

I start w/ damp hair and apply gel to the base of my hair

Next I brush my hair up into a high ponytail using my denman and my boar bristle brush to smooth the base, pulling all the hair through

Then I apply my leavin to the ponytail and use the denman to distribute the product (make sure to seal w/an oil to keep in moisture)

I then fold the ponytail under to form the bun and use a clip/bobby pin to hold the bun in place (I put the clip under the bun so it does not show)

At the end I may apply a little more gel because I find my hair lays down more w/gel after it is in a ponytail rather than loose.

Hope this helped...maybe I should consider doing youtube videos, hmm....

Thank you so much...I was the first in my immediate fam to go natural and then my sis followed suit. It's nice to have someone to talk to about natural hair and be able to help each other in the process.
