I applied the Avlon Texture Release amino acid treatment to my hair 10 days ago. So far I’m really liking it.
The application was pretty easy. Two & a half weeks before the treatment I did a henna & indigo treatment. The night before the treatment I used Olaplex & Redken Extreme CAT Reconstructing Treatment & deep conditioned.
My hair was very shiny and felt like silk after flat ironing. I didn’t experience any breakage during application.
Last year in June I thought I was going to have to cut all my hair off due to breakage from a different keratin treatment I tried. I used Olaplex & other bond building treatments & the Redken Extreme line weekly for about 2 months and stopped the breakage. But my hair was much thinner and shorter than before the treatment. I didn’t use any heat for 11 months.
The instructions give you different options depending on how you want your final result. If you just want to loosen your hair a little bit, you stop after the blow dry. If you want to alternate between curly & straight, after blow drying flat iron at 350 with 3 passes. If you want maximum versatility, flat iron at 450 with 5-7 passes. I did two passes at 410. I believe I had so much damage from the treatment last year because of the high heat & number of passes even though I only used half the number of passes recommended.
When I rinsed the treatment out I could already tell it had loosened my hair. It took my like 5 minutes to detangle my hair before blow drying. I like that this comes with a heat protectant to use before blow drying & also again before flat ironing.
My hair stayed straight until I washed it today. When wet my hair initially was straight
just like having a relaxer. But then it became wavy with big curls, maybe like 3A texture. I’m naturally a 4A/4B/3C texture. I didn’t have any breakage today. I didn’t deep condition, just let the conditioner sit under a shower cap while I showered. After rinsing the conditioner my hair felt very very soft without any product in it. It was a breeze to detangle and apply my leave in products.
Next weekend I plan to try a roller set. I believe I can get my hair relaxer straight just using rollers. When I was texlaxed, I always did roller sets and just flat ironed the roots & it would look like I had a fresh relaxer.
I had planned to go back to texlaxing at the end of this year if this keratin treatment didn’t give me the results I wanted. I will continue to monitor my hair & watch for any breakage. I want to also try some twist outs, braid outs, & wash & gos with this treatment.
