Has anyone had a haircut done at the Aveda Institute in NY at the Spring Street location or in any other State? If so, please share your reviews. I am thinking about making an appointment to get a layered bob cut.

I've gone to the Institute here in DC, the first time for a wash, blowdry & style. I was really happy w/the results and the professionalism of the young lady doing my hair. Then I went back for a trim, she asked me if I wanted to keep the layers or grow them out, asked how I like my bangs, since i have a relaxer she recommended I get a DC w/Damage Remedy ($10 extra and it was my first time using is, now I can't live w/out it!). Before she washed, her instructor came over and the stylist told her what she was going to do, the insturctor gave her some tips and asked it I was satisfied. I told her that I preferred to be trimed before washing, so she did the trim, the instructor came over to inspect and told the stylist it looked great. Wash, DC'd and styled. I loved my hair & been back a few times since then.

the thing that I like about Aveda, is that they are very thorough...most beauty schools get you in and out....

Sorry so long

Thank you so much for responding!!:D I am glad that you had a wonderful experience, I am hoping to have the same experience as well. I have not been to a salon in years so I am a bit nervous but curious at the same time because I am planning to attend school at Aveda in the near future. However, I have also read horror stories about clients that have gone there and were very displeased with the service, hence my query before going there. I am also on a tight budget so it would be nice to get a funky haircut for 20 bucks!!

It's ok girl, being very detailed is not a bad thing. It's actually very helpful.

Why not go for a simple service 1st - just to get a feel for the place and see if you like the way they do things. Then go back for the cut.

I HATE SALONS....well most of them anyway...
BUT I LOVED my experience at Aveda Institute in DC...

A white female cut my hair...she was very patient and thorough and very gentle with my hair. Her instructor, a wonderful lady named Sharonda (who was a black lady with natural hair) was very helpful and informative.... I was transitioing at the time.

I also had a lengthy conversation with a visiting Aveda instructor who had been with the company for over 25 years about the ingredients of their products...He even called the company to find out what the source and purpose one of the ingredients they used that I wasnt familiar with.

I give Aveda Institute five stars....I am going back to get my hair trimmed in either November or December before I do one year without a trim.

Get your appointment early....they book up quickly!

Yay more awesome reviews!! This is very refreshing to hear. You are so right about making the appointment early because I called yesterday to get information and also to make an appointment and the earliest date they had available was on the 9th of Nov but I had to hear reviews from my LHCF girls before I made my appointment.:)

I hope someone replies about the NY location too.
I passed by there this summer, just stopped and asked a few questions because I was on the way to another appt.
But plan to go for a salon service when I'm in NY in January.

I get their Damage Remedy Scalp Renewal Treatment, but that's it. I observed them cutting several inches from a woman's hair that was bra strap length. Her ends were thick and healthy and they told her that her ends needed trimming. However, they cut her hair to shoulder length. They approached me and asked me if I wanted a trim, and I told them very firmly that I would only allow a stylist that I have a history with to trim my hair. Be careful...

I hope so too. Come one ladies, spill the beans on the NY location. If I don't chicken out before my appointment date I will give a review along with pics before your salon service in January.:)

To ease your mind, come on down to Aveda in DC - since you got 2 great reviews, they must be doing something right down here :)

Thanks for also sharing your observation. I guess they didn't know the difference between a trim and a cut which is very bad.:mad:I will definately make it clear to whoever that is going to do my hair that I want to retain as much length as possible beforehand. I will also be bringing pics of the exact haircut that I want so that he/she will at least have a visual of what I want.

OT: JLove you know you be getting around these DC shops...you have the 411 on all the places that come up.
Im going to try Ivy at Salon Cielo one day when I get brave enough to use heat on my hair...who knows when that will be :look: hopefully she will still be around

I'm an-all-things-beauty JUNKIE, so I'm always trying to find good stylist and such in DC.

I was just telling ArmyQT yesterday that Ivy is one of the few stylist that I've ever recommended people to and they've all been happy with her. She ain't into fakin' (yep, Fakin') you pretty if your hair is jacked. She's into healty haircare. If she leaves Salon Cielo - I will hunt her down :)
