Aveda Hang Straight

So I went to Aveda today for my regular visit (what can I say, I jumped on the bandwagon hard!) , picked up the Elixir and was contemplating getting the Hang Straight. However, the lady working there asked me if I was relaxed (I'm texlaxed, so I said yes) and she said that I should not use it because it will break my hair.

The ingredients seem fine to me, and I reeeeeeeeeeeally want to get it because since I am texlaxed I need a little something extra to get the roots straight when I rollerset.

So are there any relaxed ladies out there who use Hang Straight with positive/negative results? And do you guys think that she was just another poorly informed employee in the Hair Care Industry or that she might have saved my hair from disaster?

The Ingredients for Hang Straight are as follows: Active Ingredients: Aqueous (Purified Water) Extracts, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Acrylate/Aminoacrylates/C10-30 Alkyl PEG20 Itaconate Copolymer, Phenyl Trimethicone, Glycerin, Dimethicone Copolyol, PVP, Cinnamidopropyltrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Tocopherol, Fragrance, Polysorbate-20, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben (ILN22090)

Inactive Ingredients: Aqueous Extracts: Linium Usitatissimum Extract ((flaxseed- organically grown)), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract ((organically grown)), Althea Officianalis Extract ((marshmallow- organically grown))

My hair loves 'cones so that wouldn't be the problem, for me at least...

I too inquired at Aveda about Hang Straight and the stylist wanted me to get it but said I must use it with heat, mainly a blowdryer or flat iron. She said it was good for thicker hair but fine haired ladies should not use it. I didn't buy it when she mentioned heat.

Now, Allandra mentioned she used it recently without heat, unless I'm mistaken, and she liked it.

Yeah Allandra reviewed it and it worked for her and she's relaxed/texturized, I ordered some so it can help with curly shrinkage, I'll see how it works on natural hair.

Isis,

I posted that I DID use it with heat. I said in my review that I used a blow dryer on my hair for 5 minutes, AND then I flat ironed my hair. I will bump the thread so you can read it again. :)

For those ladies that are relaxed there are other products that you can use that will help straighten your hair after a wash or during. I'm natural but this has really helped me straighten my hair. Oh the Aveda Hang Straight dries your hair out a little because of the Marshmellow (sp?) Root - you can combat that with a light oil.

Other straighteners:

Paul Mitchell Straight Silky Serum - works without heat for me
Paul Mitchell Straight Silky Poo and Con

RedKen Heat Glide - LOVE THIS!!!! Number 1
Redken Poo and Con - Straightening

Loreal Blow Straight Lotion - this also works without heat and it's inexpensive! Just 3.99 at CVS or Rite Aid.

Thanks for all the responses, but I still wonder what prompted her to say that it would damage relaxed hair...

I do plan on getting it soon though (Aveda has yet to fail me:grin: ) so I will post any reviews then.

Sorry about that Allandra. I don't know where I got that from! But I did remember you liked it. Thanks for bumping the thread.:)

Are you referring to the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Line? Or is the Paul Mitchell Straight Silky line a different line?
