Attention mothers, godmothers, nieces...

I don't think there's anyone here that does but does anyone here relax their daughter's hair?

If so, how do you maintain it? What products do you use?

I was thinking of the Motions for Kids line but I am unfamiliar with children's products except baby shampoo. I'd like to be able to suggest products to this child's mother but I don't know where to start.

The girl's hair is relaxed and is breaking. She used to wear sweatbands as hair bands and now that section of her hair is GONE---The first two inches of her hair line from ear to ear are less than an inch long....it looks like almost like it was cut to sport a teeny weeny afro but you can tell that it wasn't cut..... /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Let me know....

Hi Daviine,

How old is this child? I would be inclined to say that if her hair is breaking, it's probably not a good time to put a relaxer in again. Are they absolutely opposed to transitioning to natural, or cutting off what's damaged and starting over?

I am a firm believer in JUST FOR ME. My second choice is PCJ. They are both very gentle and JFM has a whole product line. I love the oil moisturizer.I have seven nieces and nephews and several godchildren and it works on all of them. I hear shea butter also works well. I believe that if you relax it you have to be prepared to comb and Moisturize it everyday. Again, Just For Me is my favorite! And the moisture and attention grows their hair. Especially the cradle cap. We use Olive Oil on the new borns.

Miss Montserrat, I noticed that your hair is the length that I want and it looks wonderful? Have you ever used the Just for Me on yourself? I had been using Beautiful beginings for years without a problem, but stopped because it was no-lye. I wanted to know if you grew your hair out using the no-lye kiddie relaxer? Thanks /images/graemlins/look.gif

I dont use Just For Me on myself, only on the kids. I have always used Hawaiian Silky (no lye) until I recently tried Motions Mild (lye). I have always wanted to try PCJ because it grew my friends mothers hair like mad. She was using Cream of Nature at first and ended up wearing a WIG. When she switched to PCJ her hair grew back strong and healthy (with weekly wash and sets). I also know someone else who had breakage from coloring her hair blondish/red. The Pcj was so gentle and her hair grew from thin shoulder lenghth to thick mid-back length. As I think more about it... I think it will be my next relaxer.

Thanks for the reply. I'm strongly considering going back to what I know works. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
