Burrr!! I have noticed that some natural and relaxed ladies are using cold water as a final rinse. Does anyone incorporate this step into their regimen and if so what benefits have you seen from it?

I've always done that from as far back as I can remember. It's something that I was taught to do whenever I cleanse my body or hair. :bath2:

my understanding is that rinsing conditioner out w/ cold water allows you to rinse out the excess but keep some of the conditioner in/on your hair. otherwise, with a warm rinse, you'd lose the benefits.
also heard it helps seal the cuticle.

I do, it closes the hair cuticle, which induces a shine on the hair strand. My strands are shiny.

Ditto.

Also, when I blow dry my hair I end with a cool shot on cool for the same reason.

Growing up my mother would always say how her college Asian friends would rinse and (I think wash as well) their hair with cold water. I always thought it was related to poverty, something they carried over from living in their country, with limited hot water. :look: (I know I know ) It wasn't until I got older that I realized the wisdom behind the Cold water rinses., and it Being especially beneficial for Black hair and retaining its moisture.

I read that it seals the cuticle. I've noticed that my hair feels stronger and not so porous. I have the best results when I cool rinse THEN condition. I read that fortifying conditioners don't work as well until the cuticle is sealed. I don't know the science, I do know that my hair feels better.

what i heard is that using heat when deep conditioning opens the cuticle and then rinsing with cold water then closes the cuticle.

thank you ladies for the responses, i think i will start doing this...i'm not too fond of cold water in the shower, but the benefits sound too good :yep:

hmm, never thought of it this way...so are you all rinsing the conditioner out with cold water or are you rinsing it out with warm water and then doing a final rinse with cold water?

I final rinse cold also for reasons already expressed. I usually lean my head forward & spray it with hand held showerhead so my body gets very little of that cold water. :bath2:

Q. Should I use hot, cold or warm water to rinse out my conditioner?
A. Conditioners are designed to keep the good stuff in and the bad stuff out. Hotter water will remove more conditioner than warm water, which will remove more than cool etc.

This is from motionshair.com under motions conditioner q & a.

cold water rinses actually were NOT good for my hair...i felt like my hair was dry and it made it tangle more.

ive always rinsed with warm water with the exception of about a five month period when i was doing cold water rinses and i just recently started back using warm water and i can instantly feel the benefits in my hair (a LOT softer, not so many tangles etc.etc.)

I have never noticed any benefit whatsoever from cold water rinses, and I did them for a while. In fact, I really think I get better results when I rinse with warm water. Good thing because I wash my hair in the shower and I can't stand cold water on my body...especially in the winter.

I thought I was the only one who experienced this. :)

I'm rinsing it out with warm water and then doing a final rinse with cold water.
