At what length did you stop washing your hair less often?

My hair is approx. MBL (although I'm still claiming BSL). I normally wash my hair every 4-6 days or so, but around the 5th day, my hair begins to feel moisturized and supple. But then, I wash and the dryness began all over again. So I've been stretching my wash to a week. After I washed, I applied Long aid curl activator gel to my ends.

The next day, after it was dry, I applied African Pride BRX braid spray, and sealed with EVCO and Alma oil (gold). Now normally my hair hates oils, but my hair has NEVER felt so soft in it's dry state. I can even (gently) comb and brush through it with NO breakage when it's dry. I've checked my ends for signs of damage and they look great. My hair seriously feels like it did when I was a kid; my mother only wash my hair every 2 weeks or so.

I'm seriously thinking of stretching my wash days to 2-3 weeks. My hair is very porous and it's difficult to keep it moisturized for very long. The only thing I do is apply braid spray or Aussie Hair Insurance and seal with EVCO & Alma oil every couple of days...... seems so much more simple than what I was doing before and now my hair is the softest I've ever seen it :yep:. Perhaps it's applying the water based moisturizer & oils in it's DRY state that's caused this change. I was always so afraid to manipulate my hair when it's dry that I never really bothered trying anything different

I'm a little less than BSL and I wash every three weeks because my hair feels more moisturized those last two weeks. I feel I've retained more length this way too (less manipulation). I'm going to try going back to every two weeks, because at that point my hair starts looking quite dull.

Right now at a couple inches past WL. It's too long and I have ALOT of it and it seems the more manipulation I do, the angrier it gets.

In the winter i've gone from once a week to once every 2 weeks. Since I normally
co wash every other day in the summer, this summer I plan on doing twists/twist outs and maybe bunning it and wearing some scarves.

I feel the same, perhaps the dryness is the reason for my split ends

I am MBL, and I am finding that I need to cowash more often (about 3x a week) and was once with shampoo because it is getting hot and I sweat a lot from my head.

i look forward to my hair getting longer so I can get away with this. I'll be stretching out those flatiron jobs to 2-3 weeks. at this length, can't do it. I'm an oily mess by the end of a week.

I'm APL right now and I braid my hair in 30 braids once a month and I co-wash my braids each week and wash with shampoo after I take the braids out. I tried going 2 weeks with no washing of any kind and my scalp was NOT happy! It took me a while to get used to replacing my weekly shampoo with a co-wash but now it's not so bad, plus I hardly ever have much breakage or dry hair anymore.

Man, I was about to start a thread somewhat related to this, I've found I have to wash more, even though I want to wash less...

I am only APL or a smidgen past it. I wash my hair every 6-8 weeks, however I co-wash just about every day. My hair has never been more manageable or moisturized. I will never go back to frequent washing (shampoo)

I'm at SL right now and am doing the same thing. I normally wash my hair 1x per week but have started using coconut oil again mixed with sesame seed oil. My hair feels strong and soft and only needs a light misting with water every few days.

I'm on day 9 or 10 and my hair and scalp are as happy as a lark. I thought my head would be itching to death, but ironically it's not. I do, however, have to wash my face more often due to the coconut/alma oil. But I don't really mind because it helps keep my skin clearer :perplexed

I thought I would too, but my hair in it's natural, dry state would always be rough to the touch and wiry. Now my hair feels as soft as chenille fabric.

Hmmm....I've tried co-washing frequently but then my hair gets overmoisturized when exposed to water excessively. Then it stretches and gets brittle. I may cowash once a week and shampoo every 2-3 weeks. Unlike most people, the roots of my hair seem to dry out more quickly than the ends and will tangle (although they're fairly easy to get out). So far, my roots have been more moisturized . I also test the strength of my shed hairs by breaking them, and they're noticeably stronger than before :yep:. I think I'm just going to go ahead and adopt @LynnieB's regimen altogther since our hair seems to like the same things so much. I don't know why I never learn that the most SIMPLE regimen is always best for my hair :nono:.
