At what age should you stop dying your hair jet black?

I have an aunt who is still dying her hair jet black and she is 72. I want to suggest something else, but I dont know howerplexed .

Unless she brings up that she's wanting to do something else with her hair, I'd let her be.

There are things that we'd like to see changed about someone's appearance, and on the same vein there are things that others would like to see changed about our appearance. Whether it's hair color, hair texture, a certain shirt, shoes, makeup, etc... it's their choice.

Plus, I know if I told an older relative to do something different with their hair (and they didn't ask), I'd run the risk of catching a beatdown. If not physically, verbally.

^^ I agree. I have an aunt who is 60 and still has a jherri curl I wouldn't dream of telling my aunt her hair is out of style.

Well as long as the dye isnt making her hair fall out or damaging her scalp in any way, I dont see a problem with it. Let lil grandmama do her thang!

Are we related???? I know what you mean... it makes her look older than what she is... but then again, my aunt still thinks it is ok to wear mini skirts, and yes sh is pushing 70... NOT a pretty sight

I don't see the problem to be honest, my Grandad is 7.... 24? i think anyway he still dyes his hair, it looks good though, and even if it didn't aslong as it ain't damaged i don't see the problem.

My mother and her sister still dyes there hair jet black, my uncles says my mother looks like a vampire . I can't say want other people should do or even what I will not do but I don't think I'll ever dye my hair.

My grandmother was 94 when she passed away and we (I) had to go to the BBS and get some of that temp hair color because if I didn't know one would had knew her. Grandma was knew for her Lucille Ball Red hair and she was mine color. . So never is the answer. IF it makes you happy go for it.

Do it...do it...do it till they satisfied! (No one is in a rush to be all gray, you know. )So that leaves brown, red, blonde....or blue and purple,....yeah, let is stay black.....lololol

I have about 30% grey and I think black is now starting to be a little to harsh, because it's not attractive with white hairs coming out from the scalp

Nowadays it's a soft dark brown for me, and I probably will go even lighter as my hair gets whiter and whiter.

It's funny because my mom (who's in her 50's) refuses to dye her hair jet black because she think it looks "unatural". Instead, she uses a medium to dark brown shade on her grays, even though her natural hair is black.

On the other hand, my grandmother (who's in her 70's) loves to dye her hair jet black and doesn't care about whether it looks natural or not.

My grandma stopped dying her hair black around 80 (she's in her mid 80's now). Actually, it didn't look that bad to me. Her hair is completely white and when she needed touch ups, she used those 'Tween Time' temporary sticks or black mascara. Plus, she's so old school, she never leaves the house without her hat, so you really couldn't see the roots.

That is something I have been thinking about also. The more greys you get, should you go lighter or darker to keep them covered? It seems like if you go lighter the greys are easier to blend in?

If she's happy with dying her hair jet black, then she should continue. Why would you want to suggest something else (unless she asked you for a suggestion)?
