Are you still perfecting your regimen?

Since I became more conscious about my hair care and health, I've been slowly perfecting my regimen by finding products, styles and routines that work for my hair. I began my journey in April of this year and I've only just found a process that really works for me. Now this has happened to me a few times during my journey - when I thought I found the right process but then tried something else and found that it worked better! I also have to keep in mind that as my hair grows and enters differnet stages that I have to change a few things to keep it happy!

So all of this is meant to say that I'm in my 4th month of my hair "awareness" and I've only just perfected my routine - at least I think so! lol

How long did it take you? Or how many twists and turns did you go through to find out what really worked for you?

I paid to perfect my regimine.
Let me explain...after 15 years of going to a dominican salon, having my hair reach great lengths and still be healthy, I just continued to follow the routine that my stylists used.

The only thing that I changed is various conditioners as I my hair requirments changed. For instance, when I moved from NYC, I had to learn to do my own hair. I ended up having my hair fried by a terrible stylist, so I adjusted my conditioners accordingly. Once my hair was back in healthy condition, I resumed the regular routine.

I'm still perfecting my regimen.

I have a good idea about what works for me. I'm a PJ who's trying to recover and I'm also transitioning so I know that products that work now may not work 4 months from now. What I use also depends on how I'm wearing my hair. I have things that work when it's straight, wash n go, and pulled back in a bun.

I think I'll be perfecting my regimen forever. As you age and/or your hair reaches different lengths, it will need different things. Your regimen will always need to be adjusted.

I've been perfecting my regimen over the past few weeks since I got my haircut and I must say, it's really working well. The biggest and best change for me is using products I *know* do not have the ingredients that don't work well with my hair no matter how pretty the bottle! And taking into considering the basic things needed for hair care rather than going overboard with a gazillion products.

I could say two months ago when I washed/conditioned my hair, I'd have about 5-6 products sitting out on the shelf for me to put in my hair once I got out of the shower, now, it's 2-3!

im about a month into hair awareness....im in the process of 1. breaking bad habits 2. finding out which products my hair likes and 3. perfecting a regimen....in that order!

youre making some mean progress natrox!! i hope i kinda have it down within the next couple of months...

Most definitely, It seems it may take me a while longer, especially as i'm in transition and my needs or hair may react differently over time.

Im definitely still tweaking my regimen. I seem to never make up my mind about products and frequency...

That's what I'm going to start doing is using less products. My hair was better when I kept it simple and used less.

Yes, this is absolutely true! I had to change about every 4 months.

It's been over a year, and I'm still perfecting my regimen. It seems like I'll find a product that works well, then it suddenly stops working or suddenly starts irritating my scalp. For example, I've been doing the no-oil thing for a while, but now it seems like the glycerin products are making my hair hard & the leave-in conditioner makes my scalp break out into huge flakes. So now I've started back using natural products like safflower oil, coconut oil, and coconut milk. Olive oil does nothing for me. Hopefully, this will be something I can stick with.

As far as curl defintion and constant moisture goes, I have it figured out

My next big challenge will be straightening my hair, which will be in a couple of years. so no need to worry about that yet. I saved some threads about straigthening natural hair. So Ill use them to my advantage when the time comes

It took me about 4 months. It took LOTS of samples for me to figure out what my hair did and didnt like. I still like to try new things every now and then, but i have staples that i always go back to.

It has been a year and half and I have only 4 staple products. In order to perfect my regimen, I need a good setting lotion that doesnt dry out my hair. I also need a good multi-purpose daily moisturizer.

Me To Girl I rotate my conditioners a lot.

I'm pretty happy with my regimen. The only thing that I wish I could figure out is if there is anything that would cause me to shed a little less hair.

I ALWAYS have a golfball-size amount of hair that sheds. It's consistently about the same amount, so maybe that is just "normal" for me. No matter what I've changed or tried, it's the same amount. And considering that I only comb my hair every five days, I guess it's not really a lot of hair, but I still wonder is there something to make it even less.

I never used to think twice about it, but all the ladies here seem to lose very little hair, so it makes me wonder and go "hmmmmmmm."

So I'm happy with my regime, but I would feel that it was perfect if there was a sure-fire shed-reducer that worked for me!

Shatani, sounds like a plan girl!

And thanks too! I still have a way to go myself but at least I'm ahead of the game with all the knowledge I've learned from my forums over the past few months.

Hairlove, I hear you! I've come to find that less is more too. I think we get excited about trying new things but you have to start somewhere to find what works best right?

Yes. I can't recall the exact month, but around March/April of this year I started learning about true hair care. Since then, I've recently decided to embrace my natural texture and become natural

I made this decision just this month so I have a lot of learning to do, still.

I'm currently trying to find staples and I think im narrowing down my list. I like to experiment though am realizing the same thing as MizAvalon, that diffenent stages of hair progression will reqiure me to try new things.

I haven't even adopted a regimen yet, let alone continous styles. These past weeks have been the only time that I have been able to really experiment with styles. Hopefully I find something that really works for me...

Yes, I am still working on it. I think that once I use everything I have I can determine what worked for me. I am using a hair journal and I am charting how my hair reacts to different products and I will only rebuy what works.

My "hair awareness" began in May. So I am definitely still trying to perfect my regimine. I have found some things that I will never, ever buy again and some things that I think will stay in my shopping cart unless I find something that works better. I said (ROTFLOL) that I was going to give myself 6 months of being a PJ to determine what products I like best.

This is true! My answer to that is to find someone with similar hairtype with a simple regimen and go from there. This IS what I did in the beginning of my transition period but it was tougher back then b/c it was so hard to find a transitioner on the net...
