Are you beginner, intermediate, or advanced?

Ok so it sounds like, from the responses so far, that:

Beginner still struggle with their reggie. Hair and hair things still take up a lot of their time, money, energy. Trying something new might spell disaster or be what bumps them to the next length. It's all very up in the air.

Intermediates know what works. They have a solid reggie that gets results. They occasionally experiment but not too much. Setbacks are still a very real fear.

Advanced have had a solid reggie for a while They have no fear of setbacks and feel free to take chances but just don't bother. Hair and haircare rarely occupy their thoughts.

That sound about right? Feel free to edit...

I dont know, I consider myself a beginner still but I do have a reggie. I say I'm a beginner because I havent really gotton into the styling side yet. I have two styles working...WnG and Puff. After I get some more styles going I'll be able to call myself an intermediate. So maybe beginners don't have reggie yet and/or have not yet become a DIYer

I'm definitely a beginner. Strangely, I somehow feel like I know less know that I've been on the forum. You know, how for some people (me included), the older you get, the less it seems you know. When you were a kid you knew everything.

But in the speciality of styling, I'm intermediate at least.

Ahhh, the beginning of wisdom!:yep:

about the original question posed by the OP:

I'd have to say that I am advanced when it comes to relaxed hair care/growth/styling with regards to relaxed hair; I've been doing my own hair for about 10 years. I'm also advanced on weaves (installs and styling). However, when it comes to my current natural hair I'm only about intermediate because I've only been natural for 2 years and I'm still trying to master a few styling techniques. Overall I'm pretty confident about my regimen and understanding hair in general.

Hair care has always been a hobby of mine. Although under my current screename I've only been a member for a little less than a year, this is actually my second account and I've been a LHCF lurker since it was attached to the black hair care yahoo group. In addition to the knowledge I've gained on this site and other hair forums/sites, I've always been into holistic and natural health care of the overall body so I'm well informed about the biological composition of hair which has assisted with my own hair growth and retention and several people close to me. Even with that being said, I love LHCF because I am still learning new information almost every time I visit the hair board.

I consider myself advanced.
When I first found the boards I was very hardcore for about 8 months and that resulted in a perfected regimen. I try out new things so I won't get bored, but I have an arsenal of products that work perfectly on my hair just in case.
I've been evey length from APL to WL.
The only thing I haven't learned is patience.

Not sure how to answer. I've learned A LOT since I've been here. But I have also suffered lots of setbacks, and I havent reached my goals yet. Right now I want to start completely over though.

I'm at the intermediate level. I know what works for my hair and what to do if I should ever have a set back. I like to experiment with natural oils but have managed to keep my PJism to a minimum during my 1 1/2 yrs as a natural. My hair is growing steadily & healthily so I might just stay at this level and chill :)

If I were to compare myself to gymfreak, Id say intermediate to slightly advanced. She knows all the hair science.

My mom calls me a hairologist lol.

for my hair i'm intermediate.
before i claim advanced i want to know about relaxed hair care, how to straighten my hair without:afro: on the 1st day, learn to roller set, learn more about what ingredients do, learn about hair dyes permanent and semi permanent, learn about braids, weaves,LF and everything about hair care before i dare say i'm advanced

i know how to keep my hair moisturised 24/7 and how to keep my hair healthy but i'm crap at styling

i got more to learn and it will be a while before i get there but i don't mind

i would say intermediate..on my way to advanced. so it kinda feels like im in the honors class for intermediate level

I would say that I am intermediate. I have definitely learned a lot and I consider myself an expert on my hair and what works for it , but when it comes to styling I suck! I'm finally seeing lengths that I havent seen since grammar school.

Hmmm, IRL I feel like I'm headed for advanced, but on here, I'm just entering the intermediate stage and I feel like there is still a long journey to advanced. Just like how I've been chasing APL forever.

Hi Ladies This is my first post here, however I would consider myself intermediate. I have a lot of hair knowledge and have been doing my own hair for years. I never had a regi, so in that sense I would have to say a beginner.

For me I'd say I'm advanced when it comes to taking actual care of my hair but intermediate when it comes to the scientific break down of product ingredients and what each of them do for/to my hair. I am still learning more about this and will be able to move into advance in this area as well fairly soon.

I'm a beginner. Lurking since June, officially joined in August, started following the advice on the board the end of September - still don't have a regimen yet. I have a busy life and trying to devote time this weekend to do more reading, more research and hopefully get this thing "down". I'm in the newbie 09 APL challenge so i need to get moving! i have a fotki with one pic. i'm in braids now. i may do the 6 month braid challenge. I'm afraid i may still be a beginner this time next year

I only have one pic in my fotki. My starting pic.

I think i'm in between intermediate and advanced..sometimes I'm a little lazy and don't want to stick to my regime and my hair yells at me for it..but I know what my hair wants and needs at this point.

I concur. This is me to a tee. I do my hair and my neigbors' hair every weekend. I am advanced at flat-ironing.

I think that i am intermediate when it comes to natural hair. I was natural for 6 years. I relaxed my hair December 2007. I believer there is room to learn at anything thats why intermediate when it comes to my natural hair. Now with my hair being relaxed...i will say i am a beginner. When i had my hair relaxed in middle school i did not take care of it. I am trying to learn how to take care of it this time around....but i really miss my naps...lol...so i am reading everything and trying to learn.

i wanna say intermediate cause i know the basics, but at times i feel straight up beginner cause my hair doesn't obey.

intermediate because im definitely not a beginner. i dont consider myself a pro because most times even though i have the info i just have no idea what to do with my hair. when i bridge that gap in my knowledge ill consider myself a pro.

intermediate...i know what works and doesn't work for my hair, and it's growing like crazy...and i am finally understanding when to use protein and when to use moisture!

Even though I have been a member for like 15 months, I would consider myself a beginner. I have been protective styling with a weave since almost the beginning so my journey has been extremely easy so far. The true test for me is when I actually start taking care of my own hair without a weave. I hope I'm up for the challenge and don't have any major set backs.

I'm between intermediate and advanced. I started here in March, but I've been lurking since January. Lots of the healthy hair care practices, I was already doing before I started here, as my mom passed them down to me. Some of the stuff, like avoiding mineral oil, I learned here. But detangling stuff....all my mom, and it's the same stuff you're doing here. Low manipulation, I was doing that before as well. So now, I just picked up some extra advanced techniques for what to do, from theis site.
