Are you a worshipper?

The title of your thread made me think about T.D. Jakes Potter's House Gospel CD.

After one song, TD jakes said there is a difference between praise and worship. A worshipper blesses God for who God is...and a praiser thanks God for what God has done. A worshipper will bless God if he/she doesn't have a house, shoes, etc. The worshipper doesn't wait until God performs to bless His name...he/she will bless God b/c He is God -Alpha and the Omega.

Thank you PinkPebbles...Ooooo that's it! I think I'm mostly operating in praise right now...I need to just be in a continual state of awe of him in worship when I lift his name.

This is a good question and has crossed my mind at least once. So based on the definitions of praise and worship ...

Source: The Strongest Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible
worship - prostrate oneself before God, bow down, humbly beseech, and do obeisance or reverence.
praise - to revere (with extended hands), laudation, specifically a hymn, to kneel and to bless God

... I'm a praiser.

Worship encompasses praise. Worship is bigger than praise. In my spiritual life, I need to work more on the worship component. I express admiration of (i.e., praise to) the Lord, especially when He comes through for me. Even in rough times, I find a way to praise Him when I look back on what He has done for me.

When it comes to worship, I certainly revere and fear the Lord in my heart, but I don't do enough worshipping. It is rare that I demonstrate my reverence to Him beyond mere obedience (and even in obedience, I sometimes falter). I want to be a worshipper, and not just a praiser. It is something on which I should probably meditate.

I feel you!

I believe the true test comes when God doesn't give us our plan but His plan...are we still going to bless His name (worship Him) simply b/c He is God!?!

Okay, gotcha. I'm just used to hearing "praise and worship"...you get the impression after awhile that it's singing...but the singing may be the praise part...and the worship is being in awe. Sometimes I just lay in his presence and commune...but the awe and fear part I'm not doing, or if I am it's not intentional in my private prayer life. I think we may unconsciously "know" to do it when you are in a church/worship environment.

Woooww....now I feel like worshipping...Amen. He's worthy! And his plan is greater than anything I can imagine!

Sidney - I understand what you mean but I believe you can worship God in song too! As long as we worship God in spirit and in truth there is no one way to worship the Lord. How I worship and reverence the Lord may be totally different than the next person, but nevertheless it's worship.

I listen to quite a few songs that bring me to tears, with my hands lifted up in awe!

Yep, pretty much, but the singing can be a part of worship as well. Either way, I need to work on that "awe" component.

:yep:, You ladies are on one accord.

@sidney this is a good topic b/c it allows us to examine our relationship with the Lord.

I wanted to come back and say worship unto the Lord is an expression of love and adoration.

However, I would like to take it a step further and say if worship means to love, and if love means to obey according to scripture then obedience is an act of worship as well.

I believe when we obey God that's a form of worship b/c the scripture tells us if we love God then we will obey His commandments. John 14:21

In addition, I believe that both praise and worship are essential for the Christian journey. You have already listed the scriptures in reference to worship so I'll list the scripture about praise.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Thank you lady, Good word!

Bump...why am I always up at this time lately?...lol. Anyway,

I was watching a program (Sid Roth) and he had this guest who could see into the spiritual realm. The guest was talking on how many times in church services we cut the worship short, due to time or tradition etc. , before we break through some sort of ceiling/level etc. He said one time he was in a church where the worship was going well and there were angels amongst the people worshipping along with them. Then the Pastor came up to the pulpit... cutting the worship short and began to preach. He said when he looked around the angels were crying .

I know for me, there have been many times in church that I just felt we should worship a little longer. Instead of the usual two praise songs, one worship song (sing it 2-3 times) then sit. I also don't like when I visit a church and the congregation just sits and watch the choir sing (huh?). There are also some songs that I feel that are not true worship songs but we view them as such because they are slow paced. These are songs that are not directed to God but rather to other people and are about us. These put the focus on us and our struggles (past or present) instead of singing to God telling him how awesome He is.

To answer the thread title, wish the OP hadn't deleted the OP, I am deciding that I am going to be a worshipper. I do worship in my home sometimes, but not nearly enough. I mean, if I was created to worship then I should do it everyday in some shape or form. Worship in spirit and in truth... I feel like I do that sometimes but I'm not 100% sure what that really means (I know I understand something conpletely when I can explain it to someone else, and I can't) but I am going to find out.

Derek Prince has a great teaching on praise, thanksgiving and worship. Praise, thanksgiving and tithing are weapons of spiritual warfare. This has revitalized my personal study and prayer.
Worship is an attitude. It's being in awe of who God is, remembering all He has done for us and the people we know, praising Him for for being the God who delivers us, is faithful, our source of salvation and who loves us despite all of flaws.
