Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I was wondering if there are members here that trimming their hair is not an option due to whatever reasons... /images/graemlins/confused.gif
I would like to know how do you maintain your ends.
Any and all responses will be appreciated.
thanks,

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

Hi Foster,

Welcome to the board! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm not really a no-trimmer, but I do not trim every 6-8 weeks as I used to. I never got any length that way. What I do now is dust my ends myself. I look at the tips of my hair, and any split ends I notice, I snip it off. I trim now about 2-3 times a year, never more than 1/4" at a time. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

Hey Foster. Glad you asked this question!

I was going to a stylist and I would get a trim every 8 weeks from her. Well, needless to say, she was very scissor happy, her cutting cost me about two months of new growth, and mind you I was getting these EVERY 8 weeks. Needless to say, I don't go to her anymore. I haven't had a trim in 5 months, and I am happy, and my hair is STRETCHING!

I don't think I getting a trim in a while, at least til next month to make it 6 months. And I am going to trim my own hair, because it seems that very few stylists can trim it like I want it.

I am so angry at myself for allowing her to do such a terrible thing..... /images/graemlins/wallbash.gif

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

right now since i am still letting my hair grow, i get it trimmed every three months or when i think they need a trim.
but when i reach my goal i think to maintain the health i will get my hair slightly trimmed every 6 weeks or so.

if there is no need to trim your hair don't do it. and especially don't let nobody else try and tell you that you have to get it trimmed EVERY six weeks or eight weeks. that's bullcrap. do what works for you. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

Hi Foster and welcome to the forum! /images/graemlins/grin.gif If you don't want to trim your hair keep it moist. A lot of women use vaseline on their ends and say it really does the job. If you prefer to wear our hair down, keep the very ends rolled under. If you wear your hair up, tuck the ends hidden out of the air so they don't try out. I am about to become a "No trimmer or in my case SUPERCUTTER" myself. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

Hi Foster

I do trim my hair but only twice a year...and I do it myself.

If you for whatever reason dont want to trim I think it is a good Idea to do dusting as someone suggested (yes I have a very bad memory /images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

i usually get my ends trimmed every time i get a perm which is once every 3 months or whenever my hairdresser thinks i need it {and she's not scissor happy at all you can't even tell she trimmed anything off}

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

Well I know for a while there was a school-of-thought that said "trim 1/4 inch every 6 weeks no matter what." WHY? Why trim hair that MIGHT split. How will it ever achieve LENGTH??? I trim my hair at the bottom for eveness (and I am not too picky about it being perfectly even.) That's enough for me. My hair grows too slowly to be constantly trimming it...

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I don't trim my hair. I think I have been lucky because I keep my hair in a bun most of the time and I condition my hair a lot.

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I thank all of you for responding. To clarify myself, I was asking for information for those that do not put scissors to their hair AT ALL. Not even dusting is an option for me. But what I can gather, really keep the ends moisturized and wear my hair up...
I rinse daily and this seems to work somewhat but my hair does not dry moist but dries DRY!! (Does this make sense?)
I also need suggestions for mega moisture...all suggestions considered.
**thanks for the welcome.

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I was wondering why "dusting is not even an option" for you? I mean I am not a big fan of trimming, but the hair does look nicer if it is "even" at the ends. I know that Cathy Howse does not believe in trimming either, but I noticed in her more recent pics she has evened-up those scraggly ends....

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I trim my hair 1-2 times a year. And even then it's such a teeny tiny amount like 1/8 of an inch or something like that. My ends are healthy and I don't suffer from splits.

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I also trim my hair 2-3 times a year. I have started applying the blue Afro sheen mixed with vaseline to my ends after I have finished washing my hair, wrapping foil around my ends and hold the ends with a curler for 5-7 seconds, wait for the ends to cool down, then remove the foil, that certainly seems to help my ends. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

Hi Foster. I dust my ends myself once a month. I have inches of no lye hair to get rid of, and because that hair tends to be dry I get split ends regularly. I bought some sharp scissors from a beauty supply store for this. I don't trust others to trim my hair, not after the horror stories women here have shared.

I'm also curious - why is dusting not an option for you? An occasional dusting can't hurt!

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

My mom told me that my great-grandmother use to singe the ends of her hair, this was a popular practice a very long time ago. I remember on the old longhairlovers board there was a topic on hair singeing and it was very interesting. when you singe the hair ends you don't have to trim. It is done by puting the flame of a lighter or candle near the ends of clean dry hair don't put the flame on your hair. rub off the singed pieces. hair singeing supposed to seal the ends of your hair unlike when you trim. I haven't tried this yet I probably will when my hair gets longer.

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

if you do this does that mean that roller setting is out of the question and you just air dry? i am just wondering because by the time you are done with your ends i dont think you would try to roller set it or would you? /images/graemlins/confused.gif God bless you all.

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I am definately a "no-trimmer". The main resaon is because my hair takes forever to grow. I just stick to wash, deep conditon, and rollersets.

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

In my faith, I do not cut, clip, dust, whatever, whatever my hair. NO SCISSORS!!! In the past, it seemed like my hair grew MORE without trimming as opposed to trimming. Only God knows why. BUT, with this last pregnancy, my hair experienced many trials and I am striving to get my crown and glory back in health, hence the original question to see what members were using for end care (minus the trimming suggestion).
Ironically--- and this is just my observation for what it is worth--- I noticed knots on the end of my hair. It was at the bottom of the split end at the top of the split end. My conclusion was that my hair is healing itself so to speak because it seems like the knots are preserving the weak areas because otherwise, my hair seems to be strong. As I said, I rinse daily but since my hair is short, the ends have no other choice but to be exposed and are very dry. I have probably used quite a few moisturizing products but I have yet to really find that "umph" I am looking for. Any hair twin to me out there? /images/graemlins/wink.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif

p.s.
I hope that I am not a hopeless case for you all and I make some kind of sense ....

Hi Foster,

If not trimming is part of your faith, then what you definately need is an excellent moisturizer/detangler. That's the only solution I can think of. I know a lot of the women here can recommend conditioners that may be able to help. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I like your lenght
its nice, how long did it take to get your hair that long
and what do you do to keep it growing

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

I have been doing deep conditioning once a week. I now use two conditioners when I wash my hair. One for deep conditioning and the other I leave on for 5 minutes with no heat. I also use a leave in conditoner. I also use Jojoba oil daily which is helping keep my hair moist. This winter we actually have a cold front. In the past winter has felt like spring time. Now it is really important to protect my hair and keep it moisturized. I never sleep without a satin cap or scarf which ahs made a world of difference.

Re: Are there \"no-trimmers\" out there?

There was a discussion on end sealing that may help your hair. I plan on trying it myself to see if it will improve my hair. Here is the link:
