straight pieces of hair on areas of their head? I have quite a few areas where the hair grows in totally straight...straighter than when I even have a relaxer. Hmmmm! I wonder if this is a result of genetic throwback

I never noticed this when I was realxed...obviously. But now I find quite a lot of it in the back and crown areas. I have noticed even my area down south also has this.

It could be that your hair just has two different textures. Have you had your natural hair pressed? If so that might be the reason

Girl,I have about 4 different textures of hair. My front has always been straighter that the other parts of my hair. I think most of it results from brushing, combing, geling, and pomading the front part of my hair. Since I have learned how to do the scarf trick, I don't brush my front anymore. Hopefully this will help with the straighter than the rest phenomenon.

yeah I have that. I 've done the big chop twice since May and I know I have no more relaxed hair. My friends love to point out the straight strains not due to any heat or products ( mostly in the crown and the back).

--- I guess there're just different textures. Maybe when my hair gets longer it won't look as funny...lol

yep.. I have thick, coily hairs, thick straight hairs, thin curls, thin straight hairs, ridiculously fine straight hairs. I have no product in my hair, I haven't relaxed in around 7 years, my main style is braids, but when I'm not braided I press or wash-n-go. It's not a result of anything, just a jumbled genetic code.

DITTO (except I've only been natural for about 3 years).
There's one part on the top, front, center of my hair that has no curl pattern (it's type 2 wavy), and there's another section in the back of my head that's 4a kinky. Maybe I'll try that suggestion about not manipulating that 2 section and see if it kinks up.

The different textures used to bother me, but now I accept it. That's just how God made me

Also, if you press/flat iron your hair, I've heard that some people have their hair "burnt" straight so that it never goes back to the coily texture. It seems to differ based on the person though so that one person can flat iron every month of the year and not have a problem while for another person, it takes only one time.

If you color treat your hair, you'll find that in the areas known to be the finest, they'll also be straighter. I love to experiment with hair color, and I think that the amonium peroxide, which is one ingredient included in relaxers, is actually the culprit. I hate that, though. The chemicals are bit harsh, but I wish I could find a way to have colors without worrying about the chemical damage. One way I make up for it is to wear protective styles, no-poo method and keep moisturized daily!

Hmmm! Well, I have no color and I know it's not heat damage because it grows from the scalp that way. I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one.

I don't have any hair from my scalp that grows completely straight. It will start out straight, but then curve a little.

yes, i have a couple of places on my head where the hair is straight, they usually stick out of my afro and look really out of place

at first i thought that maybe it was some left-over relaxer, but my hair has been trimmed many times and i have finally decided that my hair just grows from the roots like that

None of my hair grows in straight straight, but I have a bunch of different textures too. The front and sides of my hair are 3b/3c, the nape is definitely 3b if not 3a, and the crown is 4a, maybe 4a/3c. It's hard b/c the crown has the least amount of definition and shrinks up the most, and it's right on top of my head

so no hiding it. I don't mind the texture, just wish there was more consistency thru my head. ARgh.

I am so glad to see I am not the only one. What's worse is that I was having 2 different textures on the same hair on top of my head. I got fed up so I chopped off quite a few inches all over, in the hope of getting rid of the differences. If it comes back, too bad. I'll learn to live with it.
