Are there any natural products made for relaxed heads?

I have tried Aubrey Organics and the only product I like so far from them is the GPB conditioner...I haven't yet found anything else to compare to the results I receive from GPB.

I have tried some products from an old site which used to be called Elemi Skin (she had some good natural products as well, but unfortunatley, it has been so long ago, I can't remember all the things I tried from her line - although I do remember she made some of the best and I mean best moisturizing body lotion called Spiked Punch and the smell :lick: - I really miss her...she was good people.

I tried Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap as a shampoo and let's just say I didn't try that again - used it on my face and it left me too dry :nono:.

I have tried Carol's Daughter's hair products and was only satisfied with the Ylang-Ylang and Frankincense Shampoo (this shampoo provided a nice sudsy lather and left my daughter's natural hair very soft and tangle-free...maybe the lather came from the castile soap) from the long list of other products I tried from her Hair line:

1. Healthy Hair Butter (did nothing for me or my daughter's natural hair and the smell was a little too strong)

2. Hair Milk (because of the water added, it made the hair frizz)

3. Some of Marguerite's Magic (well, let's just say I was disappointed with this magic show - another product with beeswax and water - just wasn't a good combo for me)

4. Mimosa Hair honey (imparted a nice shine for the frizzies, but a little goes a long way...I would try again along with anything else without cones to eliminate frizzies)

5. Black Vanilla Rinse/Mist (ehh, it was okay, but was looking for something with a bit more punch - maybe I wasn't very knowledgeable about rinses then for my hair, but I know it did nothing for my daughter's hair.

Now I'm hearing reviews about the Oyin line of natural products and the MyHoneyChild line of products as well. The concern I have is...are these products specifically designed for natural hair? I will be honest, since my hair is relaxed, I don't know what type of hair I have so I don't know how to go by Krika's regimen for specific hair type...it's all too confusing. Am I a real PJ or what?

Another reason my interest is so strong in these companies, is because this year I do want to try an overall healthy approach to my hair, skin and body the natural way. So if someone can help me I would greatly appreciate all who try to assist little 'ol me :look:.

If you are truly interested in natural products, then you might have to consider making many of them yourself. I would suggest going to the recipe section and either checking out or buying Naturally Healthy Hair: Herbal Treatments And Daily Care for Fabulous Hair by Mary Beth Janssen. It was a really good book and was packed with recipes.

The first step might be for you to try to make your own hair butters. I firmly believe that a lot products, like Oyin or Carol's Daughter can be made at home. In fact, CD started out making things in her kitchen! The main reason that I would buy her stuff is to support an African-American business, because I am always happy when one of us starts our own business.

Also, when I began this process, I wanted to go completely natural too, but I found that I could not do this without jeopardizing the health of my hair. With that in mind, I have tried to be as natural as possible, and I have stopped using any products with mineral oil and petrolatum that would stay on my scalp.

Here are the natural products products that work well for me. If you want to be super natural, you can buy them in an organic form from the health food store. Some of these products, like essential oils, I have only been able to find at the health food store:

mango butter (www.fromnaturewithlove.com) -- I use this with a combination of oils and it is ok
olive oil -- fantastic for the baggie method, hot oil treatments, daily moisturizer
jojoba oil -- great for the scalp, also very moisturizing
avocado -- I blend it with oil for a pretreatment
coconut milk -- mix it with conditioners for slip
essential oils (rosemary and tea tree are great for my scalp. I use clary sage in my hair oil concoction)
coconut oil -- this and olive oil are my two main staples. They are fabulous

have u ever tried phyto hair products. i honestly don't know if they are all natural but they are supposed to be considered natural type products because of their ingrediants. mop and abba are also natural lines as well.

ATLTiff is correct about Phyto products, but I would recommend the PhytoSpecific line as it is geared for Relaxed tresses. I currently use their vital force shampoo and conditioner and they are great. In the next month I am about to try the intense nutrition shampoo and conditioner mask. Check the ingredients of their products too. (I got this from the website)

IMO, the Myhoneychild styling products would be too heavy for all but the thickest relaxed hair. The Caribbean activator might work, though... :scratchch The shampoos and conditioners sound nice, but I haven't tried them yet.

Jason, Avalon and Nature's Gate make natural products that I liked on my relaxed hair. :) I think Giovanni is a natural line... And check out some of the products rec's at longhaircommunity dot com. Most of them are into products with natural ingredients and no cones. They use a lot of homemade stuff, too.

I haven't tried anything from myhoneychild yet and even when I do try it, I won't be trying this particular product, but Kricka does say that the Honey Love Moisturizer would be good for relaxed heads. Some of the ingredients are: Purified Olive butter, Virgin Olive Oil, and Raw Honey. It's supposed to provide shine and luster.

I, too, am in search of natural products. All I've found that work on my hair are:

Olive Oil: Pre-shampoo Hot Oil treatments
Apple Cider Vinegar: Clarifiying
Egyptian Magic (www.egyptianmagic.com): Moisturizing on dry hair - mostly my ends
Phytobrush: Shampoo (I didn't know Phyto products were all natural)
Phytodefrisant: New growth

If Phyto is all natural then I just need to find a deep conditioner, a reconstructer (although I'm thinking of trying a mixture of egg yolk and olive oil), and of course my heat protectants ('cause my hair loves silicones).
