Are glue-in weaves bad

I was just wondering if these are damaging and if one should always get a sew in instead

I wish I had a picture of what they did to my girlfriends head. Bad doesn't begin to describe it.

I believe they are bad. Never understood why anyone would want glue put on their hair; don't believe you can remove the weave without needing to trim some of your hair, and what a waste! And then there's the chance that you could react adversely to the glue if it comes into contact with your skin.

In all matters pertaining to health, if there's a more natural alternative to any procedure, I always pick that.

And if you want an example as to how bad glue can be, check out this thread and this one.

A resounding - YES! I have a co-worker who INSISTS on having them in her head, she does them herself, perms her hair every three weeks so it's always 'smooth' and does her weaves every two weeks w/the adhesive. She shampoos once every two weeks. I'm surprised she has any hair at all.

Katie, are you going to do it yourself? If so, I recommend you do a sew in one. You can cornrow your hair down vertically and sew the weft onto the tracks! This method works! I tried it on my mother.

My sister wears glue in weaves and honestly i wish i could tell you the condition of her hair but i havent seen her without one in about 4 years

she does them herself. she does her own touchups, coloring (she has a reddish auburn color) and applies her own tracks. i'm not a weave person so i dont know much but she always gets compliments from other women that wear them and some that dont. Just last week she was in the BSS and someone asked who does her hair and she said that she did her own hair and the lady asked her if she had any customers. I just dont think adding glue to anything is good especially hair. like i said, i havent seen my sister's hair in years so who knows what condition its in. --jainygirl

I have to agree with the ladies above. I did it for several months and it thinned my hair, IT DID NOT GROW, and no matter what kind of glue remover you use taking it out is still damaging. Thinking back I can't believe I was putting glue in my hair. It's taken years for my hair to recover.

Glue is so bad for your hair. A lot of times the glue does not stick very well and you find yourself reapplying the glue. It leaves ugly clumps in your hair too. I feel if you are going to wear a weave than make sure it looks good. I am considering a sewn in weave again. Just to give my hair some breathing room for a few weeks.

Thanks for the responses ladies.I am not considering any kind of weave. One of my friends is though so I wanted to know.
I will definitely tell her to stay away from the glue!

They are baaaad! I did mine myself and it looked off the hook! I was getting all kinds of compliments. But when I tried to take that crap out of my hair I had to cut 1 1/2 inches off of one side where my hair had broke off. Now it broke off because since it's a weave we think we can curl it every day and blow dry etc. But we foreget our own hair is out between those tracks getting damaged! Then of course some ends were getting ripped out from trying to remove that stuff out of my hair! It was like trying to get tar out! I used alot of remover too and that stuff was sticking well.....like glue! Just say no, and "stick" to sew ins Smile

I saw a makeover over the weekend on tv.The black lady had dry,dry parched relaxed hair.It was really short, but not an attractive short...more like a damaged broken off short. They gave her a relaxer followed by a glue-in weave and she looked great after. Now I feel sorry for her.She didn't even know anything about weaves and I thought since it was a tv show they would know their stuff so I figured glue-ins weren't bad.It is good to know the truth now.I already told my friend.

PLEASE tell your friend NOT to use glue if she's going to get a weave. It definitely will thin her hair out and cause her hair to look very fragile. She can't even begin to imagine the damage she will cause.

I just had my first glue in weave and it caused no problems. I put a lot of oil in my hair and put a bag over it and then a du-rag and I let it sit in for about an hour. Then I massaged the tracks and they started slipping out. I looked on the tracs to see if any of my hair was stuck to them and there wasn't. I loved the way it looked.

It's not something I would do too often, because I think people's hair thins out because they keep the glue on their scalp and their scalp can't breathe. But I liked it. No damage here.
