are corn rolls or box braids better for hair growth?

I always thought corn rolls were better
But I just read somewhere that box braids are.
I know the two times that I've worn box braids [with extensions]
I'd wake up with braids in my bed, that had fallen out from the root

Just wondering what you all think is better for growing your hair out?

Cornrows work ok for me- but I notice more retention with box braids- maybe because I don't redo them as often (less manipulation-i think) and the spray I use gets to all my strands better, my edges definitely benefit from box braids more:yep:

I don't think either one is better...As braids don't actually cause your hair to grow.

Both are wonderful ways to avoid manipulation.

It really depends on what you are going for. Cornrows don't last as long as box braids. They get fuzzy faster and will need to be removed or re-done sooner.

I believe that box braids tend to be a little more harmful to the hairline but this damage can be avoided if they are not too tight and if you care for the hairline with scarves and oil & braid sprays.

I prefer cornrows plaited in a circle around my head for growth retention. After repeated washings, my ends show through the box braids which leaves my hair ends rougher, so i end of trimming more.

Cornrows are more beneficial to my hair though they need to be redone more often I don't try to style them as I would with braids.

I got better growth with box braids. However, when I wore corn rows I actually liked them better b/c I was able to redo them more often.

what are box braids?

Box braids are singles.

Micros are box braids that are extra small.

HTH

I am on the same page as Mook: either style could help you retain growth. Just wanted to add that the other thing that makes box braids pluck your hair out is attaching too much additional hair per section of your own. Box braids w/o extensions, when in doubt, are the way to go--if you must have box braids.

I personally choose box braids because braiding cornrows. even just ten of them, wears my arms out. Believe it or not, I find doing hundreds of singles/box braids less tiring. Go figure.

:thankyou: Nonie..... I feel silly because I never knew singles and box braids were the samething, but now that I think about it, it makes sense. Thanks as well for the pictures.... I am going to try to do my own.

do any of you ladies baggy in box braids?

Okay well then I am all over the box braids.....:lachen:. I will do them this weekend and try to post the pics.....

Interesting question.

I personally find that cornrolls are better for my hair as less of the hair ends are left out :)

I'm getting good growth doing box braids with my natural hair, but I can't comment on if cornrows or box braids are better for hair growth.

Oh my goodness, I feel this is so true Denise. I think I will do cornrows next for this same reason. When I wore cornrows 3 years ago, my hair ends did seem to thrive a thousand times better than with the boxed braids. I don't mind re-doing them once a month instead of every 2 months with the boxed braids. Cornrows it is next time for me.

I took my boxed braids down and my ends are breaking off a lot. I thought it was because of the henna or infusium 23, but maybe it was because they were exposed through the braids extensions. It could also be from the 5 month relaxer stretch as well. Anyway, I know for sure I will not be stretching my relaxers that long ever again. I think 10 weeks are enough.

I've worn both. I got better growth fron cornrows because I did less.

Since I wear wigs alot I also like to keep my hair braided for two weeks at a time.

I agree with this statment for myself.

From what I recall, I get better growth with the box braids, but my ends get so trashy and dry, I have to cut them.

With cornrows, maybe less growth (not even sure) however my ends tend to stay in better shape I'm rocking cornrows right now and Ovation and hope I get some good growth
