Okay, so my hair is getting longer and I want to get a good stretch out if it. I was thinking of letting my hair air dry in big braids then using hot curlers to stretch it out more. Has anyone tried this, I want to make sure it is a good idea before I go out and buy these things.

I'm trying to picture what you mean and am not sure I understand. I dry in braids to stretch my hair but I've never tried to roller set my dry, stretched hair on rollers. Do you have a link to the hot curlers?

many naturals just set their wet hair on rollers and stretch that way. no braiding before hand. considered curlformers?

I have used rollers and set under the dryer to stretch my hair. I have not tried hot curler though on air dried hair. I have also used large flexirods and they work well.

Ha! I've been thinking about this for the last 2/3 weeks CC. I can't wait to hear more responses. Does anyone not stretch before hand and just roller set air dried hair with the hot rollers?

Are Carusos still the go to LHCF brand?

I was just searching for this thread to add her video link since I do think this is what OP us trying to accomplish.

I have Caruso steam rollers not the kind in the video. I'm not sure the Caruso rollers would work the same, but I may try to stretch my hair with them soon. I sort of think it would be frizzy though - from the steam.

Is your goal straight hair? If so, maybe dry in braids and then flat iron with a Maxiglide flat iron. I plan to do this when I next straighten in January (6 to 8 braids). I can avoid the blow dry step. I have a FHI Runway flat iron but find that the steam function on the Maxiglide with the comb/teeth attachment works well on my curly hair while the FHI is better on my blow dried hair.

My goal is definitely not straight hair just stretched out enough so I can put in a neat bun. I have tried to stretch my hair out with only chunky braids but it did not work out well for me. I just need to try something different. Thank you for posting the video, I have been looking at the Caruso rollers as well would these work on 4b hair?

I blow dry and then pincurl my curl overnight.

Sometimes I may even lightly flat iron it with 1 pass on very low heat and then pin curl it

I did it that way when my hair was short. The downside was I always tempted to flat iron afterward.

found an old pic (i'm deleting it later)...

one side didn't turn out as neat but this was the 1st try.

I was just going to suggest that. You don't need heat to curl your hair. That said, I don't know yet how to separate the curls w/o getting frizzy ends, so unless you figure it out, you will just go about looking like a crazy human who took rollers out of her hair and forgot to style the hair. :giggle:

Heck, so many do it (Even I did it), that it might already be an acceptable style these days to go looking a way that back when we only knew of curlers, we woulda looked at folks like they were crazy for walking out of their homes with uncombed hair after removing curlers. :giggle:

So pretty!!

No m'am, by the time I do all that airdrying for 2days, setting on day 3 to get a style on day 4...itll be wash day again!
I just blowdry.

I don't think Caruso rollers would work. I envision a lot of frizz when using them on natural hair due to the moisture from the steam.

How about just doing smaller braids to stretch your hair? I air dry in about 6 braids to stretch my hair but my hair is fine. For thicker hair, maybe 10 - 12 braids?

I used my Maxiglide on an old twist out and it worked to stretch my hair.
