Anyone thought of getting a lace front wig??

I'm really tempted too...they look soooo real! And would be a wonderful way to rest my hair.

I'm just concerned as to whether they cause any damage to my skin or hairline underneath.  Also wondering how hard it would be to moisturize my hair underneath?

If any of you have any experiences I'd be glad to hear them :)

I'm debating, I've seen some really nice ones...but a lot of them look pasty at the edges. So for now I'm just going to keep watching.

Do you know if you are able to moisturize your hair while you have them on...I see most people wear them anywhere between 1-4 weeks long.

Has anyone had a lacefront? If so, did your hair grow at a good rate with it? I wanna get one for my trip for labor day, does anyone have any suggestions?

Not for those prices. *YIKES*

But seriously tho..... i would be curious to see if anyone has an extreme CLOSE-UP shot of the wig and forehead, so that i can see how it really looks and blends. Im talking, an unedited pic taken by a fine, high pixel cam so i can see the real deal. I would only wanna invest that type of money into it if it looks that realistic and gorgeous.... they look hella beautiful on TV, but u know how that goes. The TV can play tricks on the eyes.

I dont think it would be damaging at all.... probably the ultimate protective style. Shoot, u could even slap a plastic cap on that joint underneath the wig cap if you wanted to oil up and be doing the baggy method at the same time. :lachen:

I have a lace front wig. I loved it at the time (I wore it for at least two months straight)....although, looking back on it, I think I probably looked silly to everyone else. There are plenty of downsides to a lace front but if you are willing to overcome the following, then I think it would be a good idea:

1. Expensive (the lace front unit itself plus the glue/tape/wig caps/additionals such as baby hairs etc)
2. Edges get thin (not to say that this happens to everyone, but it did happen to me)
3. Challenge in finding a good QUALITY lace front and mastering for YOURSELF how to apply it and wear it

I go into my problems with my wig in fotki.

I like them and would probably buy another one in the LATE, LATE future.

WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT?

I'm gonna order one. I plan on wearing it a little more forward than my hairline (i got a BIG forehead with plenty of space) so i don't think it will mess up my edges. I don't mind the price I think its worth it. Im getting someone else to apply it. What other problems did you face? Did your hair still grow ok?

Those were great pictures, very detailed. Thanks for sharing, DGG.

My hair grew great...cause as someone mentioned before... it is protective. My edges were very thin as you can see on the other fotki albums (besides just the lace front album) which is why I had to give it a break. I am currently transitioning to become natural so I am wearing kinky twists now....but 6 weeks from now I might change to something else. I thought about taking my lace front to a special salon in Detroit (that specializes in lace fronts) to apply it, but also to maybe thin the wig out (my wig was unrealistically dense), but my vendor did not give me any other choice (but the better vendors will let you choose from a variety of densities). My only other problem is that I work out alot. I would wear the wig for like a week straight then remove it, wash my hair and the wig, and then reattach it. I am not sure that was a wise choice at the time, but whatever.

I liked the wig, I like lace fronts, but you have to do your research and know what you are getting. I have seen lacefront that cost $150 and those that cost $1500...trust me the difference is minimal....get out and do the research (i.e. go to blackhairmedia's hair forum--they are most comprehensive on this subject).

You can look in my fotki for pics of my lace front. I only wore it for those pictures. I just felt weird wearing a full wig.

Have you seen the pictures?

yes and it looks like any other wig or weave IMO. you did a good job with the blending. i wasn't expecting a wig like beyonce or mary j cause not only do they have the best wigs money can buy they have access to the best makeup, air brushing etc so i am still unsure why you would say that.

I purchased a lace front wig about 2 months ago, I never really mastered the application technique, so it didn't look quite realistic to me and I don't wear it. Maybe if I had it applied by a professional things would have been better. I used the Mity Tite glue to secure the wig, and I ended up snatching out some of the baby hairs on the side of my head when removing the wig, so be careful if you decide to get one. There are several vendors out there that have some beautiful units, but I would not purchase another one.

Thanks for all the opinions ladies. I've decided against getting one at the moment, and going the weave route. I feel I can get to my hair on a daily basis to moisturize it in a weave. I will still keep an eye out on the lacefronts though...they are beautiful!

I am getting my lacefront installed today...at 6:30!! I am very nervous about it but i am SO excited to not have to do my hair!! A salon is installing mine so they will wash/condition/braid my hair up so that it will look right. My unit doesnt look crazy, its just a straight black one, very similar to my hair. I have a camera on hand and will be posting my review tomorrow bright and early with pics.

I decided to cut my hair and start over - have been wearing a lacefront since March - my hair is growing beautifully... As for price, I never pay more than $195 for mine because I order them direct from the manufacturers - and they are custom made to my measurements. All of the units you see on eBay for $200 + are coming from the same manufacturers - the sellers are just upping the price to profit. The reason people aren't having luck with them/they look unnatural is because they are purchasing stock units - designed to fit any head. I've mastered the application, and I wouldn't have it any other way - I love LFs! I can't feel it on my head at all, they are totally breathable, and don't feel hot in the summertime. No one thinks it's a weave - just my hair! Anyway the wind blows, I'm covered. Full lace units can be parted anywhere and look natural. They let you have fabulous hair, and they can take a beating, instead of your own hair. You can also change your color on a whim, without the repercussions of hair dye - I wish I had known about these things before I got Beyonce-blonde ambitions.

virtuasis (or anyone else for that matter), Do you have any tips about mastering the application. I plan on only paying this salon to apply mine one time and then doing it myself for every other. Also, how long did you leave yours on before u took it off? THanks.

Are you able to moisturize your hair while you have the lace front on???

Where did you buy yours? Can you PM me with some more info.? Is there a site? What does yours look like?

Here are some contact info for a few vendors that someone sent me in a pm from BHM: Lydia: http://public.fotki.com/lydiagao/longfei_lf_wig/

wayne: http://yiweidu.com/wigsbywayne/index.asp?info=attachandremove

Jacksun: http://public.fotki.com/jacksun/full_lace_wig/

Kevincn: [email protected]

You can also go to http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=79 for more information on Lacefronts HTH

ETA: Most of these units are under $200. I am ordering a curly Lydia unit (FSW-22 in her fotki) now.

I had one and I think I'm going to purchase another one real soon. I didn't use any glue or anything with mine unless I knew I was going to be doing something extra. I took mine off daily so moisturizing my real hair was no issue. I didn't experience any ill effects while wearing it and I wore once forrrrr months...maybe 8 months.

The quality all depends on where you get it. You need the density to be right, the lace to be right, etc. Also, you want to make sure quality hair is being used, and if parting is an issue make sure you find out if you'll be able to part all over or just in certain places. I've seen some lacefronts look extremely natural while others just look like BSS wigs.

Here's my lacefront...
