Anyone stretching 16 weeks or longer?

I have stretched for 12,16, and 20 weeks. Not because I was on any sort of challenge; it was mostly due to laziness and not calling to set an app,no money when I thought of it. Then around 16-18 weeks the new growth gets ugly (as in hard to manage, head looks like mushroom) and I relax. Recently (last 2-3 years) my hair has begun to break off alot when I go too long. But, I'm finding now (It's been since before Thanksgiving) if I straighten my hair/roots more, it's not as bad. And I've been using a spray of water and Suave orange smoothie to re-wet and lay down the roots into a smooth ponytail, or bun.

If it starts breaking a lot again, I'll make a mad dash to relax.

HTH!:D

I've gone as long as 7 months for some of the same reasons as winterintl, e.g., laziness. I'm guessing I'm around 16 weeks now but I have no desire to make an appointment b/c every single "professional" I've gone to has turned out to be nothing but a disappointment. So, until my desire to risk scalp burn/hair loss increases, or, in the alternative, I find someone who can safely apply a relaxer and be professional (on time), I'll keep transitioning by default.:look:

Yup!! Right now I'm at 15 Weeks. Longest I've ever gone.
I put a Post Relaxer stretching journey in my Fokti. So far so good. I am stretching till April.
Next week I am flat ironing hair straght to see how much growth i've gotten so far.
Currently sportin a Braidout, My 2nd attempt ever at one. In fokti.

I stretch mine to 4 months at a time. I find that I get breakage after that. I went once 6 months without a relaxer, but I didn't like that I got too much breakage. My hair is baby fine :ohwell:, so I can't go that long anymore. 4 months works like a charm for me, though.

I am currently in week 16 of stretching my relaxer. I hope to relax mine mid April (24 weeks). I have experienced a little tangling. I love stretching out my relaxer because I love the surprise I get when I realise how much closer I am getting to my hair goal when I relax my hair. The last time I relaxed my hair I stretched my relaxer for about 20 weeks.

The longest I've gone is 9 months. I'm currently at 6 months with no date in mind to get it relaxed. It's become so easy for me to stretch that I forget that I don't have a relaxer (until I wash my hair by myself)

Buns, braidouts and braids helped me get to 9 months. This time around buns (not as many), braidouts, cornrows and blowouts are helping me stretch this time.

Keep up the faith, you can do it!

I'm going for 17. If that darn PHYTOrelaxer in the closet would shut up and stop calling me, I may just make it.
I'm at about 12 right now.

I'm going for 5 monts this time. I Usually stretch mine to 4 months at a time.
My last relaxer was November/01/04.
So my next relaxer will be April/01/2005.

hiza....

I stretched my last touch-up to 6 months without too many problems. I may go longer this time. I'll re-evaluate at my 6 month mark again in June. If all is well, I will just keep going.

I also do mine every 16 weeks. Next week will be 16 for me, but I'm going to do it at 17 this time so my daughter and I can go get our hair done at the same time... She can only go about 12 weeks... her edges need it badly by then...:ohwell:

I have no problem going to 16... I think I could easily go to 20 but my hair doesn't look *quite* as nice after about 16/17 weeks... and I also need to keep it at 16 because of my color schedule...;)

I am 12 weeks post, and doing well because of weekly trips to the dom salon. Everytime walk out of there I feel like I just got a relaxer until I start spraying my scalp with surge that is...then I see the true roots.

I plan on going as long as I can at least 4 more weeks.....I am wearing my hair up in a chignon everyday and its working.

I just did 16 weeks. But I have to admit I hated the size of those wash day hair balls. I think about 14 wks is optimal for me.

It will be one year in a couple of weeks. Since I wash everyday, my new growth is very easy to get through and I'm a 4a/b. I was going to relax the crown but I just don't see a need to yet (plus I'm lazy).

I've stretched 12 months, 9 months, 7 months and 6 months at various times. When living in Florida I used to get touch ups every 4 months due to the humidity.

Experience has shown that I shouldn't really go past 7 months; after that, there is just too much shedding. Going back to 6 month intervals though if nothing more than to maintain a regular schedule.

ETA: I wet set my hair on mesh rollers and dry under a soft bonnet dryer. Pulling the roots taut straightens them and minimizes the difference between the new growth and the relaxed ends. This can be difficult to maintain in the summer because of sweat and humidity and is another reason for me to relax at least twice a year.

I'm at 10wks and will try to stretch to 20wks. For the past year I have stretched btwn 16-20wks without any problems. But this time around I have a little breakage at the back :nono:

I stretched my relaxer to 16 weeks the last time before I got a re-touch and I'm at 15 weeks now. I'm trying to wait as long as possible this time, or at least 6 months total. Conditioner washes with KeraCare Humecto, my wide tooth seamless combs, and wearing buns make the stretch easy for me.

I went from every 5-6 weeks to 3 months to now 4 months. 4 months seems to be a good point for me. Plenty of new growth to relax, with less chance of over processing and only 3 times a year I have to do it. :)

If I overstretch my touch-up, I get really bad breakage :( as well as shedding besides my head looking like a mushroom

I think I stretch for maybe something like 12 weeks MAX.:)

Good for you LD!

I hope to be the same way now...to only encounter the "hair crack" three times a year...four at the most (break open "hair crack" in case of emergency).
