How do you do it ? I'm over 20 weeks post relaxer and I'm tring to make it well past 28 weeks because of my medication(accutane). Is this possible to do without damage? I was thinking of just wereing braids but I want some that wont take a whole week for me to do. And if any of you ladie have pics of some nice styles I'd be very greatful.
Thanks!!

I've done it before for 8 months..I think that I just wore it up it didnt look that great but I didnt care cos my hair needed a break. When I did relax it again it had grown loads and I didnt have any damage.

Now I texturise - Im at 6 months past and Im aiming for a year. My hair is a lot more manageable if I do rollersets or flat iron rather than leave it frizzy curly cos it gets so thick.

Thanks! What is your hair type Buffalosoldier?

Argghh the dreaded question ha ha ha ha

Errr probably 3cish but its a mix.

Im not sure of your hair but have you tried blowing out the roots with a boar brush after you roller set like a dominican blow out? it works well for me.

Braids or a weave are also other options.

I'm currently at 11 months 2 weeks. The way I got through it without anymore damage than not relaxing more regularly is box braiding (no hair added) all of my hair underneath the crown and I just leave the crown out so I can put my hair in a pony tail without anyone knowing that I have braids underneath (avatar pic). This is what has gotten me through. I undo/combout/redo the braids every other week and I just comb the crown section after each wash (just about every day). My hair growth rate is VERY slow and this method has helped me retain the little length that I do gain.

Dam you got some long hair !! What is your hair type and did any hair product really soften your roots and give you good slipp?

I am ashamed to admit
but yes, I have stretched my relaxer to a lil over 9 months before...

I was wearing a sewn in weave with my hair braided underneath (I know some of y'all are like thee FVCK!?!?how do you wear a sewn in for more than two- three months? It can be done ladies!) but I pampered and fussed over my sewn in like it was a premature baby.

I did occasionally have my edges and the small amount of hair that was left out relaxed just to blend better with the weave. But for the most part about 95% of my hair went unrelaxed for 9 months.

I didn't wash frequently, maybe every three -four weeks or so, instead I used a latherless shampoo to clean my scalp and the weave, I tried my hardest to keep *my* hair moisturized.

In retrospect, I wouldn't advise anyone to do what I did. That's just too long in my opinion (for a sewn-in), the biggest drawback is that now I have uneven lengths of hair (the hair that was braided underneath is WAY longer than my edges and the top of my head) but it did help me achieve a great deal of growth. It's true the less you do to your hair, the more it grows. Before I was right at mid ear and afterwards I was at shoulder length on the sides and a lil below shoulder length in the back (it has since been cut higher).

If I had known about LHCF before I did that I would have avoided some of those pitfalls.

But you asked and thats how I did it. I couldn't have done it without the sewn-in/braids though.

Oh. I'm a 4Z LOL... My hair is the roughest of the rough.

I am 4b and can stretch beyond 12 weeks only with braids. I do my own so I can upkeep pretty well -- wash once a week and a complete redo every 8 weeks. I would not even think about stretching beyond 12 weeks without braiding . . .

I am a 4a/b (something in the 4 range) I just relaxed yesterday and me and my stylist were both pleased with the quality of my hair. (thanks you all you guys here) I hadn't had a relaxer in 7 months. I didn't experience any breakage. The overall condition of my hair improved. I plan on posting pictures as soon as I become more knowledgeable. But, i would wear my hair in cornrows (no extensions), braid outs, twist outs or buns. I started dusting too. Even my stylist said "When was the last time I clipped your ends" i replied '3 months or so" her response "Wow, your ends are really looking healthy" :-).
I washed once a week and went through several bottles of s-curl to keep it from drying out. Just try to keep the manipulation to a minimum.
