Anyone recently decide to transition?

My last relaxer was Oct 7, 2004 and I decided to transition on Thanksgiving.

Why? I am curious about my natural hair texture. I also want to grow out this overprocessed, color-treated hair.

My plan: Conditioner washes, no heat, bun challenge and occasional braid-outs! I also plan on getting my hair cornrowed with sew in weave to start off the new year!

Sounds like a good plan. Good luck!
I'm currently sporting a sew-in weave with the kinky/curly look. I leave mine in at maximum up to 4 weeks. If you decided to leave yours in for a while you're gonna have A LOT of hair everywhere when you take it down. You'll probably get the "itchies" sometimes, too.

Thanks! I plan on leaving it in for 2-3 months. ;) This is the first time I will wear weave all over my hair. My weave will also be that curly/wavy look. :D If it starts looking a mess before then, I will reconsider how long I keep it in. :)

I am newbie here. I recently decided to transition from relaxed to natural. I had shoulder-length hair. I already did "BC" to my hair. Right now my hair is in braids. It is growing quite well. I plan on taking them out around end of feb and going to hair salon that specializes in natural hair. Maybe I will go to "Curves" salon in brooklyn

Well this is my second and last time I'm going to transition. The first time lasted about 1 year and a half. I gotten tired of all the tangles and I really didn't know how to take care of it. So I decided to get a realaxer which resulted in clumps of my hair falling out. To make the problem even worse I gotten lice from my brother which made my hair really damage. The treatment it self destroyed my hair due to using a fine tooth comb trying to comb out the little eggs. After ten days of the treatment I decided to go on and cut my hair up to my neck. I have gotten about 2 inches already in a four month period. I might due my next cut in June depending on the growth I get. I'm currently washing my hair with creme of nature and putting it in a ponytail with vaseline on the ends. I was thinking about using sulfur 8 for my scalp. I will start taking centrum again starting in Jan. Hopefully I will get a decent amount of growth.

PS. The pictures in my album is when i did my first transition.

I gave birth to a little girl in January and of course I didn't use any chemicals in my hair the whole time I was pregnant. In May, I got a perm and then a retouch in September. My hair wasn't kinky or unmanagable when I didn't have the chemicals I was just trying to spend my time trying to NOT have wavy hair. To me, it looked funny and I did not know how to style it. Then at the very end of September, my sister pressed it and I looked like hot trash on a rainy day! I hated it! My hair was all stringy and greasy looking (it is in my fotki album under progress)...I thought there had to be something better but I did not know what so I did a internet search and found this board. Now I know what to do to my hair. I am 12 wks post relaxer and I can't tell too much difference between my relaxed hair and my new growth ( I think my hair grows slowly). Now that I am almost 40, I just don't feel the pressure to look a certain way just because. I am not going to do the big chop right now. I am going to wear braids, weaves and protective styles and just see how this transition goes.

Newbie here, I've been lurking around for quite some time. I've learned quite a bit from this site. :-)

I am transitioning my last relaxer was in Feb of 2004. But the only way my hair looks worth anything is when its blowdried and flat ironed this can last two weeks or so I just keep rolling it up at night with this great rollers I got at walmart. They are soft and they covered with satin. My hair sometimes gets too straight after a while i think its the coconut oil and olive oil. I've actually trained my hair unfortunately it hardly reverts now. But I want to find some healthier ways to do my hair. Besides the blowdry and flatiron, and the wet in the shower and gell back in a bun method. Need some suggestions.

My plan is to hope and pray that some how Tracey Ellis Ross's hair grows out of my head when I do the BC.

I had first decided to stretch my relaxers. I haven't had a relaxer since the end of august. Since then I have gotten about 3 to 3 1/2 inches of new growth. I liked the way that my hair was growing and my husband became enchanted by the waves of my natural hair.
I have been doing conditioning washes lately w Biolage and NTM. (I am in LOVE w the NTM by the way) and wearing buns and braid outs. I figured that I would put some box braids in this weekend since I will have entirely too much time on my hands. I will alternate between those and cornrows. Possibly going to try the crown and glory technique.

I am currently transitioning for the second time....If I had had the help of you wonderful ladies the first time....I would be bra-strap natural (in my dreams LOL)

I am currently doing the baggie bun thingy and loving it!!!!! The only problem that I have with transitioning is that just when I thought I found my staple item.....My hair says, "Sike...Fooled ya...Try again!!!!!!" My hair loves moisture!!!! Surge, S-Curl, Almond Oil, The Indian Oil Stuff, Jasmine Oil, Castor Oil, and Jojoba Oil.....oh yea and Natural Shea Butter.....Sometimes I use one or two at a time and yea there have been a couple of times when I have put them all on at the same time because my hair felt so good that I kept adding more and more oils and stuff and my hair kept feeling better and better!!!!! All ya'll pj's know what I'm talking about....."Oooo..maybe if I put some shea butter.....oh now let me add a little Salerm21...oh maybe some honey...ooooo now some water...better yet rose water..." Yea I hear you laughin at yourself...anywho....Transition On!!!!!!

Hi! I decided to transition as of 12/9. I want to do it because though my relaxed hair is healthy and not bone straight, I remember it being a lot longer and stronger when I wasn't relaxed. My hair also grew a lot faster, so I think it's been damaging my scalp. So, I want my natural hair back. I don't plan to do the big chop, so as my hair grows, I will wear protective styles, and press my roots when I want to wear a straight style. I will get trims as needed, and eventually, I will cut all of the relaxed hair away.

I decided to transition back to natural in Oct. i transitioned once b4 for about 2 1/2 3yrs and I didnt have a clue what to do w/ it.
My hair was muh healthier in that state, and was alot thicker.
Now that I have LHCF to look to for guidance, im sure this will be my last transition.
I plan to transition slowly like I did b4, slowly cutting off my relaxed ends until Im fuller natural. I will be washing weekly and pressing my hair until I find something else or different to do w/ it.

I decided to transition last month just to see what it is like to have natural hair. I got my first perm at the age of 12 and have been relaxing for 12 years. I want to give my natural hair a chance. I currently have brastrap level hair and decided not to do the BC. I have been conditioning my scalp more so my new growth won't come out too dry. I have stopped using curling irons and flat irons. When I wash my hair I used a hooded dryer and I try to wash my hair once a week and sometimes add a conditioner wash. I just want healthier happy hair.

Poohbear, I agree with Innocent Kiss. If you leave weave in that long (braids, too), you'll have hair loss and weaken your hair. Those are only supposed to stay in a between 6-8 weeks. Pleeeeease don't leave a weave in 3 months!!!

cosigning...i know a girl who did that...her hair in the crown grew nicely but the front was chewed away for leaving it in too long.

I've decided to transition as of December 22,2004. My last relaxer was November 23, 2004. I'm trying hto get my scalp healthy again. I know I'll have to stop relaxing sooner or later I don't want to be a 50 yr old lady and still relaxing my hair. Plus, my hair has a lot more body when I press out the new growth rather than relaxing it. I plan to put my hair in braids before I go back to school in January and as it grows out to chop it off.

Innocent Kiss, TigerLily, and Ayeshia...

I have decided not to wear weave for the beginning months of 2005. I think my relaxed hair is too fine, overprocessed, and color-treated for any type of weave-wearing. i'm just going to stick to my bun challenge.

;) Thanks for your advice!

I had already decided to start transitioning in 2005 after reaching brastrap..

..but now I think I'm gonna start transitioning NOW. I'll get a good professional blowout/flat iron every few months to check my progress. I'm 7 wks post right now and I love my newgrowth too much to bring myself to relax it..

when i first thought about transitioning, I too was thinking about waiting until I reach brastrap with my relaxed hair and then transition to natural. But I thought "what the heck", I might as well transition now if that's really what I wanna do. :) Good luck on your decision! ;)

Thanks Poohbear. I guess if you're gonna transition.. what difference does it make if you do it now or next year? I hope I dont cave in and relax like I did last summer.
