I see alot of threads about how difficult it is for some women to grow hair. I was just wondering how many ladies here have no problem growing hair. I never have thankfully. I found this site when I had damaged hair and it was a great help in helping me nurse my hair back to health and it was instrumental in my decision to go natural. So my question is, who's main problem is hair care not hair growth?

I don't have any problem growing it, in fact it grows pretty fast. It is just that it is so delicate, I used to do harsh things that would break it off. When I learned how to treat it right that was not a problem anymore.

Softresses

I don't think most have a problem with growing it. It's maintaining the hair that's the problem. My hair grows pretty good. I just have to watch out for the ends and take really good care of them.

My hair grows pretty well...I have a hard time stretching because of all the new growth so I'm learning how to deal with it. I just can't figure out why I am not realizing more length with the newgrowth that I get. I have to work on retaining length.

I don't have trouble growing hair, just went through some setbacks with what did grow and now I've surpassed the average length my hair has usually been all my life so, no I don't have trouble, but I do use growth aides because I'd like it to come in faster.

I don't have a problem growing hair either.

A year ago, I cut my hair to two inches after a bad relaxer experience.
Next month my hair will be hitting the top of my shoulders.

I used to follow complicated hair regiments, but all I do now is wash it every two weeks and braid it. And its growing faster, than when I was moisturizing my hair like every minute; and buying special formulas to make it grow.

ME ME ME!

My hair always grew and thank the Lord I never had problems with balding.

Now retaining is a whol new game plan, and that's where my problems start.:ohwell:

Growing hair has never been a problem for me. I get the standard 6 inches a year steadily.

For years retaining was a huge problem because I used heat almost every day. I also didn't really know how to care for my hair. My mom really didn't know how to deal with my hair type and none of my black relatives were interested in teaching me or her.:ohwell:

Exactly what dlewis said. All of us can grow hair, not all of us know how to take care of our hair so that we can see the growth.

Growing my hair was never a problem. I just couldnt get it to be healthy as it is now before LHCF. Now that I am taking suppliments and caring for it, hair is just growing like no tomorrow.

I agree. I never really see threads where people complain about being able to grow hair. I think most of the people that use growth aids don't really need them. Without their hair would grow just fine, but with the aid they get a bit of a boost.

Retention is the problem.

That's a real shame. It's almost like, for a biracial child, the hair is "too black" for the white relatives to understand, and "too white" for the black relatives to understand:look: . I have two biracial nieces. The oldest (she's 8) has waistlength 3b/3c-ish hair. Fortunately, my brother and his girlfriend have done a marevelous job of taking care of their hair, but they needed help from both sides of the family.

Ironically, with all the time I spend on LHCF, I still have trouble detangling their hair when I try to comb it.:perplexed I'm so ashamed!

This is the problem that I have, if I could retain length all would be gravy

I agree with alot of the posts here. My problem was/is retention. I sat down and marinated on that issue one night. All of the new growth I'd had, all of the relaxers, all of the trims.... and my hair was the exact same length. :ohwell: Between that and trife stylist my hair suffered. Badly.

I don't really remember HOW I found LHCF but I'm so glad I did. I'm on the right track now and my hair is so much healthier. It's even grown to like air drying (who woulda thunk?! ) Not only did I benefit, I share everything I learn with my family and friends.

In short, it grows and at times like wildfire.... but retaining the growth and retraining yourself when you've been taught a life time's worth of bad habits takes time. :)

I don't have a problem growing or retaining. I just started measuring and it hasn’t been a month yet, but I got a half of an inch in 17 days. Although my hair was pretty long when I relaxed, I think being natural helps. I attribute the growth to my diet and supplements and probably genetics and the retention to caring for my hair, but mainly keeping my hair moisturized.

Speaking of supplements, based on a recent poll, it seems like most ladies here do not take silica, and I can’t imagine why not. I understand that everyone is different but this stuff makes my hair grow like crazy.

I do. I guess its due to my health issues and the meds I'm on but currently, my hair isn't growing and if it is, I can't see. I haven't had a relaxer in 13 weeks, my hair isn't breaking it's just not growing. I try to offset the meds by making sure I exercise, drink a lot of water, and take extra vitamins but right now my hair is  . It doesn't appear to be unhealthy, it just isn't moving.

I'm sorry to hear about your health issues.

My hair grows just fine. But when I used to relax and take poor care of it, I could not get it to budge past the top/middle of my brastrap. It stayed like the for years and years. I just wasn't retaining the growth. Then when I did the big chop, I started doing everything the opposite of what I had been doing before and now my hair is longer than it's ever been. So the issue for me was retaining, not growing.

I don't have a problem with my hair growing (although it grows slowly), or retaining. But my hair is very fragile and when I slack off, or do something stupid like blowdrying, that's when I see ill effects, and end up having to have a deep trim.

My other problem is the different hair types in my hair grows at different rates....so sometimes I would have to deep trim to get everything even.

I dont have any problems growing my hair at all.

Its retaining that length, while still trying to be cute :look: thats my biggest problem.

Your hair is so gorgeous vaqtea. What is your regimen?

This thread is so on time for me. OK, I've already accepted that I must have the slowest growing hair in creation, but give me a break! I relaxed yesterday after a 17 wk stretch and I figured with 2" of NG in the front/center section & 1.75 everywhere else, I'd see a difference in length. But I just don't see it. I've been babying my hair for over a year now and it would be nice to see some real results (lengthwise). My hair doesn't break, shed, and I only search and destroy rarely, so it doesn't make sense.

Ladies, I'm beyond peeved. I can only continue to be patient. It is sooo frustrating!!!:perplexed

On a positive note, my hair is much thicker...

Girl, look at those pics in your siggy again....;) You have had awesome progress...and increased thickness is nothing to think lightly of!

I've never had a problem with growing my hair. I'm the problem. I have went natural, relaxed again, grew out dyed hair all in the last five/ six years. So if I could just be patient, I can reach my hair growth goal.

Also I have heard that everyone has a genetic limit to their hair growth. For instance, no matter how long you go w/o cutting your hair will only grow so long before the strand sheds. The amount of time varies from person to person. Anyone else heard this before?

Yup, not sure if it is true or not, but I have heard that.
