Anyone know of a really good leave in that has PROTEIN in it?

Hello

So about 2 months ago I cut off a lot of hair. Like 6-8 inches and now I'm back to chin length. The reason I cut so much is because I never get hair cuts ( it had been years) and I had very bad split ends. In order for it to be all one length and even, my friend had to cut of 6-8 inches. I was fine with it.

My main problem with my hair is breakage. I was fine with the hair cut because my hair grows very very fast. But it breaks off, so I mean the speed that it grows makes no difference to me. I need to stop this breakage. I've tried keeping it moistirized and bi weekly protein treatments for about 2-3 months seemed to help but I still saw more breakage than I think is healthy. Well I have had my hair braided for the last two months, but i still washed moisturized it. That helped with the breakage, but its still here. I think I'm just going to do a wash, DC and protein treatment and braid it back up, but I think I need to start using a leave in with protein. I've tried everything but using protein in a leave in so that's my next move.

I'm open to all suggestions except for cones, mineral oils and other bad ingredients.

Thanks in advance ladies :)

I like infusium 23. It is one of my few staples. I don't know if it has those ingredients you listed.

What have you been eating and drinking? Brittle hair can be a symptom of insufficient diet. Have you spent a lot of time in the sun? UV damage can make it brittle as well.

krissyhair, I have a 90% organic diet and eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, but I think I do need to eat more. I'm not usually hungry more than once a day. I try to eat more, but sometimes I just can't. And I don't spend a lot of time in the sun at all :)

Redken Extreme Anti-Snap Leave In Treatment is the best I have found hands down. It has wheat protein in it, so its a light treatment. It is not silicone free just in case you were looking for that in a leave in also.

HTH!

I thought you were low porosity. Are you getting too much protein for a lo pro head?

I'm glad your back!

OT: How was your wedding?

OT2: We found someone that uses more conditioner than you. Duchess007 uses 10 oz and you use 4oz.

i agree,....if your hair is snapping and breaking, could it be too much protein....you seem to get enough protein to me:yep:

i like Chi Keratin Mist as my protein leave in. but i don't think you need protein. i think you need more moisture treatments in your program, like some hot oil treatments or Hairveda Strinillah. i love that as a deep moisturizing treatment.

MileHighDiva I missed all of you ladies! I'm happy to be back too! The wedding was hectic and stressful to plan, but in the end it was very magical and we are both very happy. Had to do a lot of paper work and stuff with immigration because my husband is australian and I am moving there, then he is moving here. So we both applied for spouse visas and its just a lot of messing around. It's why I haven't been on here for two months! 10 Oz???? How??? Lol wow.

I am low porosity. I have never used protein until like 5/6 months ago and I been on this journey for like 5/6 years. The whole time breakage and dryness has been my issue, but mostly breakage. I only use komaza care protein treatments ( which according to them is medium protein) like biweekly. The protien did seem to help with the breakage. I still had it but it wasn't as bad, but the weird thing is I noticed shed hairs when I did the protein treatments, and I don't ever get shed hairs. Le sigh.... I think I'm going to invest in one of Komaza cares hair analysis. I wonder if its worth it and what qualifies them to make these analysis ?

^^They are licensed trichologists (sp?). I think the analysis will be worth the investment.

I'm happy to hear that your nuptials went well!

I've used Roots of Nature shea butter thickening creme and ORS Hairepair anti breakage creme and both worked really well.

I second the CHI

Komaza Care's Matani line has a leave-in with protein that is good.
I second the Matani leave in. It is good stuff. As a matter of fact I still have the 2 oz sample bottle i got. I have not any need for it a a long time and I am happy.
I use the cream, not the spray. I layer it under my moisture leave in on wash days, and it keeps my strands strong and not so easy to snap.

sparkle25 Yeah, I think I hold the title for most product used. Waist-length/thick natural hair does part of the work, and I'm also just heavy-handed in general. ;)

Congratulations on your big day! :woot:

I like Hydratherma Naturals Protein leave in.

I also like using Joico's K-Pak Liquid Reconstructor.

I really like its a 10 leave in spray

I was going to suggest this too. The one with the keratin but she said she didn't want silicones so I didn't post.

OP, I don't know if you can still find it in stores but Nubian Heritage has a leave in keratin cream that's really nice if you want cone free.

NUBIAN HERITAGE INDIAN HEMP AND TAMANU GROW & STRENGTHEN HERBAL CUSTARD

It smells great. It's thick though. It has bamboo, monoi &.garlic extract for strength for the hair

My first reaction: You MUST follow up protein treatments with moisturizing treatment. Just using protein alone (without a moisturizing treatment will cause breakage. So a protein treatment followed by a protein leave in will cause breakage without a moisturizing treatment thrown in also.

Second: You should get bloodwork done to see if you have enough iron, Vit D, etc. in your diet. Sounds like some sort of deficiency which can lead to brittle hair.

I really like this stuff, too. It's awesome. I switch back and forth with this and the hair milk I posted upthread

Hi Sparkle25, I live in Oz and it's possible your problem may be the lack of humidity and hard water. When I first went natural, I had bouts of breakage that I couldn't work out. Then one day I figured out how to moisturize my hair (Kimmaytube moisturizer or spritz with rosewater/glycerin and braid outs) and wash it (bentonite clay) and I have slowed down the breakage. It is CRAZY dry out here and once it's dried out, it takes a while to get back to normal, I've noticed. Congrats on the wedding!

I use protein treatments biweekly. and then a moisturizing deep conditoner and a moisturizing leave in. I has never tried a protien leave in. I also have more breakage without protien treatments than I do with them. I think my hair really just needs more proten. Everyone's hair is different. Using protein in leave ins is the only thing I have not tried to combat the breakage. I'm going to see if that's what I need.

Second: I am under the care of a really good immunologist for a reasons un related. I have a potassium deficiency now, but that is something that only came about when I stopped eating grains and tomatoes. I had hair breakage before I stopped eating those things too.

I have some wonderful suggestions here ladies! I'm going to funnel though them and decide which protein leave in I want to try! Thanks so much !

Thanks :) I definitely think hard water also contributes. I use a chelating shampoo occasionally now and that does seem to help!

I don't live in Aus yet, but when I do we will live in Darwin, and its not dry there at all. Quite the opposite in fact lol :)
