I would like to be able to braid my hair into a single braid and then put it into a braid so that the bun shows the braid in it. I've seen this done with hair pieces and it looks really pretty.

well, i only know how i do my bun with a braid. i put my hair into a pony tail. then i braid the pony tail and then i just put the braid around the base of the ponytail. i then secure it.
You can also make a single braid(no ponytail) in the back of your head, turn it around the base of the braid like you would do it for a regular bun, then secure it with pins.
I do it that way and the "ponytail" way too. they are both nice.
