Hi everybody!

My little sister, 15, would like to be a flat-ironing natural. Well, she already is. I would like to get her that GVP, so I can be sure she's not using a damaging flat iron. I would also like to get her Sabino Moisture Block, but I only have so much money (I am thinking about getting the GVP for me too). Does anyone know of a cheap alternative? Or just a really good and cheap heat protectant?

And, if anyone wants to chime in with advice wrt to my sister being a flat-ironing natural, please do. I have been reading a lot about it just being a part of this board, but more info is always nice! I think my sister's hair might already be damaged.

KeraCare Silken Seal has the same 2 ingredients just in the reverse order.
Many on here also love Fantasia IC's heat protectant and it's much cheaper but I I'm not sure it helps against reversion

Well, no.... But - I can say that there are different grades of this same silicone.

In some cases.... ( some) - you get what you pay for.

Yeah, I was wondering it Fantasia IC would help against reversion. I want to make sure my sister won't try to flat iron her hair to death, lol.

Thanks!

Yeah, that's my dilemma. I know SMB will do the best job for her hair, but neither my mother nor I would be able to replenish it when she runs out. :nono:

Thanks!

FX silk drops:yep:

Thanks!

I totally understand. 3oz lasts quite awhile.... So - maybe saving up will help....

I can def support this statement. I have just finished my first bottle and I think I got it back in Sept. This is w/my sis using it sometimes twice a week.

Oh wow! Okay... I may just have to go that route. Do you put your hair in sections? If so, how much do you put on each section?

I usually part my hair into 3 sections and use somewhere between a dime and quarter size on each section, and try to work it in really well. Sometimes if it's been a while (since my relaxer) I'll add a little more to the prob area. HTH

Thanks a lot!

I agree with the others, a little goes a long way and I know i'll have my bottle for several months more which is cheaper in the long run.

I have the Sally's Generic version of chi silk infusion and I really like it! Haven't used it on my hair yet but used it on my Mom's. I used it along with SMB, though, so I'm not all that much of help. lol

If you decide to go for it, though, don't forget to use your LHCF coupon code. Here's the link

Here I go again with SE but it's become a mainstay in our household. You can get GVP Chi Silk Infusion now for 8 bucks and it's just as good. Smells very nice too. But SE has a good one and so does Motions heat protectant. The latter 2 are very inexpensive. And I read somewhere that you could use a curl definition creme for flatironing and it will impart lots of protection and moisture to the hair during the process.

I say save up and get the real thing. You will spend more money on imitations that don't work. Trust me, I know

I've spent a lot looking for a cheaper alternative (more than the price of SMB) ... simply put:

there isn't an alternative to SMB ... trust me too:lachen: !!!

I used the Fantasia protectant. It's more of a detangler and shine enhancer than anything because my dd's hair poofed up in an INSTANT! Though it was very soft, I may as well have not flat ironed it at all.

On the other hand, I used the trial size of SMB on her hair, and it stayed straight for 4 days until she went into the RAIN, thinking her hair was waterproof. ARRRGGGHHHH....my sweet, precious daughter.

Personally, I've used it twice since Sept. '08 to flat iron, and my hair stays beautifully straight until the next wash day.

I hope you can get it; there really is no alternative that does what this product does....and it lasts a good while. The price is worth it after you have it and see how long it will last you...

I hope you find what you need and what works best for your sister!
