Anyone here see first signs of heat damage and was able to do something about it?

What are common signs of (mild) heat damage? Is it simply looser-textured hair after flat-ironing?

Anybody here actually notice signs of heat damage before and stopped using heat, or use protein treatments or what have you to avoid having further heat damage to their hair?

I am considering going from pressing 4-6 times a year to more like once a month, and like many of you I'm kinda afraid of the possible heat damage to my hair, even when using a low temperature with my flat iron.

Bumping...because I was wondering the same thing...

I want to start using heat atl east once a month but don't know the safest way to do it without permanently damaging my hair or making it thin.

I have mild heat damage from my transitioning days. My natural hair is what some may call 4b. The heat damaged parts look 3c. It's basically looser-textured in my case. I had heat protectant and a protein treatment and both couldn't prevent the heat damage from the high-temperatured flat iron.

I've been afraid to use heat since then. If I do in the future, the flat-iron will be on a low setting to avoid further damage.

Once a month shouldn't hurt you at all - if you have your moisture protein balance under control.

I haven't used direct heat since July - just rollerset/doobies. I did need to use heat a few weeks ago when I was out of town and noticed more hair on my shirt... I couldn't wait to get back home and deep condition.
