My hair isn't in it's best condition; I've been experiencing minor breakage. I decided to take a plunge and purchase the Aphogee Two-Step Protein Treatment thinking I'd remedy my mushy hair and stall damage.

I just used it and strangely enough my hair doesn't feel stronger. I may be jumping to conclusions (I just rinsed out my dc :drunk:) or be in need of further treatment, but at $21 a bottle I was expecting instant results.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Not an Aphogee horror story, or a "my hair hates protein" revelation, but mediocre results?

I don't feel like I just did a hardcore protein treatment, but my hair was even easier then usual to detangle, so I guess that's a plus.

Please chime in with your experiences ladies!

I would not recommend the 2 step unless you have severe breakage. Especially if your natural, not a good option. The 2 min however it a miracle in a bottle

It worked for what I needed it to do. I will say that what I though was my hair breaking turned out to be my splits coming off my ends. Once I did a good trim they stopped. The two step gave me a nice amount of protein. It was not as scary as I thought it would be.

Yeah, I don't use the 2 step anymore either.
I use the 2 minute too and that does the trick for me.

That's good to know, I think I'll stick with my Joico Kpak for my protein source. If it ain't broke don't fix it...is what they tell me :yep:

I believe the old aphogee was the strong treatment. When the new two step was released a lot of people complaint about not having same result, seems milder.

For me I have only tried the old aphogee, and was too strong back then. So I stuck with aphogee 2 min, I could not deep condition with 2 min, just too strong. I use it as instructed and rinse. I was relaxed back then.

I am thinking my hair is more protein tolerant as a natural head than when I was relaxed.
How strange

I hate Aphoghee. I hate the old formula because it made my hair too dry. I hate the new formula because it is garbage. If I do a two-step, I swear by Dudley DRC28. I only use it once in a blue moon and it is uber expensive.

It makes my hair feel stronger, but its cool. I prefer something less runny and sticky.
But I do love my 2 min....

I tried it and it actually caused my hair to be extremely ....so dry i went and ran to my beautician...lol i thought my hair was going to fall out from being s o dry...i also bought the moisitruizing conditioner and something else...balancing something...i bought exactly what the bottle told me to and followed the directions exactly.:spinning:

I tried it because I have chronic breakage. It did absolutely nothing for me. But I have used the 2 Min in the past with better results.

Well it's cool to know I'm not alone. I definitely expected something more, but the new formula could be weaker than the original. I may try it again in another 6wks just for the heck of it; it'd didn't damage my hair at all so I see no harm...I could always try and return it as well.

For those of you who swear by the 2 min what does it do for your hair? I purchased that too, but I assumed the 2 step was the hard core trmt and the 2 minute was for maintenance :ohwell:

I prefer the Keratin treatment. It really brought my bleach white/relaxed hair back to health when I first start LHCF. When I started having break last year I tried the 2 step and was very disappointed. It did NOTHING. I went through the bottle and nothing happened.

I find this is best used by adding a good amount to your DCs. 1-2 T per oz of conditioner mix is a pretty strong ratio, in my experience.

Note: I have relaxed, thick in strand and density, protein-loving hair.

I use it this way on my mother's fine in strand and density hair with good results.

Follow with a good DC if your hair is protein sensitive!

HTH. :drunk:

I used the 2 step for the first time this past week. Since my tex-lax, I figured my tresses could use some protein. Well, I did not notice any difference at all. I followed it with a DC, but I really didn't notice anything. What a disappointment.

I guess I'll try the 2 minute, since it has so many fans.

I had both the Keracare Reconstructor and Aphogee 2-step, but honestly I prefer Keracare. The result was more drastic with the keracare and the product is thick (not liquidy like Aphogee) so it was easier to apply and I could comb my hair to distribute the product evenly. And eventually I had more product on my head and less on my shoulders unlike Aphogee.

I tried it when I was have some breakage and it did not stop the breakage. It just gave me protein overload. I actually still have the 2 piece set. If anybody wants it I will send it to them. Send me a pm.

i LOVE the 2 step, it's my staple hardcore protein. this is probably taboo, as many people are a bit afraid of protein... but i like to add a few drops to my leave-in conditioner sometimes, & apply it to my ends. i also follow the directions on the bottle like clockwork every 4 weeks. it really helps to strengthen my hair.

i also kind of like the smell.

i'm weird like that though. :sekret:

ETA: it's SUPPOSED to make your hair feel hard afterwards! but if you follow up with a proper moisturizing conditioner it should soften back to normal, while your hairs remain super strong. this is NOT protein overload!!! it is NORMAL, considering this is a HARDCORE protein!!!

*end rant by a protein fangirl *

 I don't even notice the smell anymore; I just did a treatment today...definitely a staple

I absolutely love this product. I don’t ever want to be without it. I do think that it may work better for relaxed heads with fine hair.
