Yeah I remember doing this in high school. I only did a patch of my hair though because I was too scared to do my whole head.

As much as I love to have color, I am afraid to use any bleaching products except Henna. I just want to keep the hair I have healthy, especially since I'm relaxed.

I actually use the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda combo to whiten my nails. It takes away the staining some polishes leave behind. It even smells, and feels a little like bleach on my fingertips.

Re: Anyone ever use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda for hair lightening/bleaching?

I did in high school for hi-lights. It was very pretty at first but eventually the hi-lighted strands looked like blond straw. Luckily I had a lot of hair and instead of cutting all of my hair, my stylist went through and only cut the strands that were colored. It took her a minute and when she was finished you couldn't even tell. I learned my lesson and I will never do that again.:nono:

I did it by accident. When I was a teen I used to put peroxide on my face for acne. One day my dad told me my edges were brown and I must have been in the sun too much. I was more careful with the application after that.

I also used Sun In years ago when my hair was relaxed. I really really liked the color but my hair was oh, so dry and damaged-looking before I put lots of pomade and oil in it. I wouldn't do it now.

^^^this. I used to use Sun-In all the time in HS and part of college, but it eventually made my hair horribly dry and damaged. I eventually had to chop it all off (right around the time I joined LHCF) and start fresh. I would not recommend Sun-In, esp. if you are relaxed.

Re: Anyone ever use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda for hair lightening/bleaching?

In high school I used to pour hydrogen peroxide on my boar bristle brush and used it To brush my hair in the mornings. I got really nice highlights that way. I learned this technique after my mom was telling me how she damaged her hair when she was younger. :look:

Re: Anyone ever use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda for hair lightening/bleaching?

I did it back in highschool. My hair definitely got lighter. After all of these years, my mom still thinks it was the prettiest color she has seen.

It eventually tore my hair up! It got drier and drier until it turned to straw. I cut all of the colored hair off and kept moving. I saw it coming and I really didn't care back then.

I wouldn't do it today because I'm not that carefree these days.

:lol: I didn't even know you posted in here.
