Anyone else get the 10 wks-post relaxer blues??

*sigh* I have the 10 weeks-post-relaxer blues. :( I don't know about some of you ladies on the board, but when I stretch my relaxer 10 weeks or longer, my hair starts acting up! :wallbash: It just doesn't behave right. I usually try to stretch my relaxers for at least 11-13 weeks. But by the last few weeks my hair is looking and feeling a HOT mess....even when I get rollersets! :nono:

My stylist thinks it's the mild relaxer that I have her put in my hair...saying that my hair is basically "under-processed" and that's why my hair doesn't "look right" after a rollerset done at 10 weeks post. Is this true?? I know for me personally, my hair just seems to fall in line and behave well right after I've gotten a relaxer touch-up. It's bouncy, loooks healthy, and feels soooo soft. I REALLY prefer the way my hair looks and feels after 4 weeks post relaxer though. It seems to have just the right touch of straightness but fullness that I like. But by 10 weeks or more, my hair is looking and feeling dry, limp, won't hold a rollerset, bushy, scraggly ends, etc. What's going on??? Is it that with every wash more of the chemical relaxer is being washed out?? I just don't get it. :(

Does this happen to anyone else? Or am I the only one? Do you ladies rollerset your hair into straight styles(wrap your hair) when you're 10+ weeks post relaxer?? Or, do you usually do more "curly styles" (ie. twist-outs, braid-outs, flexi rods, smaller roller sets for a curly style)???

10 weeks is exactly when my hair start to act up :wallbash:. I also use a mild relaxer and I am often underprocessed as well, I usually bun throughout my stretch so that I don't have to manipulate my hair too much.

Boo Hoo!

Stop your crying!

I get the blues at 6 weeks.

j/k

I do know what you feel. My hair cannot hold a curl and styling is not as carefree when as I get on in the weeks.

But, I am not as strong as others. Well I won't say that, my values are just different. I prefer ease of styling and knowing myhair will do what I want it to do over the possible benefits of long term stretching. So I just go ahead a touchup when I need to.

But maybe you could try other styles that look nice - updos, braidouts, etc.

I just stretched to 13 weeks and my hair wasn't right after week 10. It curled fine (with rollers) but it was BIG and hard to manage otherwise. I'm not stretching that long going forward. I will make week 10 my limit. Also I am TEXlaxed, not relaxed and I use Mizani Sensitive Scalp, so I don't think it's your mild relaxer. I think it's just all that new growth (which is a good thing) making it difficult to style our hair.

After my texlax my first week is where your hair would probably be at week 3 or 4 - I love it.

Im 11 weeks post texlax... I dont have the blues... and my NG is under control.. my problem is Im running out of styling options...

my hair is too curly for some style, too straight for others...and Im SICK of braids & twist outs.... I may as well like em though, seems thats all I have for now

I broke down and texlaxed after 8 wks:sekret:..

When I used to relax bone-straight, I would just keep it pinned up after 8 wks, and wait until 12 to relax.

I've been having them lately... :(

Been using OCT too, so my newgrowth is a lil scary. I'm trying to make it til June 20th, but I don't know if that will happen.

Yes! I have them right now. I have 10 weeks worth of new growth on my head right now. Enough to where my natural texture just tries to take over my whole hairstyle. I find that rollersetting is best, because braidouts encourage more tangling for me. At this point, I find it is best to incorporate "rinses" dominican style (abba moisture scentsation, organix, etc.) in addition to deep conditioning I . Silicon mix leave in, grapeseed oil and avocado butter is making my life a lot easier. Thank God I get my touchup next wednesday. I will exhale when that relaxer is rinsed out.

I just came out of a 14 week stretch. It was hard at times, but I pulled my hair back a lot and laid the NG down with the scarf method. That helped me get through the blues. :yep:

I'm 19 weeks post ...triying to reach 31 ...And the only thing i do : make a "light bun" with hairpins and put a headband to hide my ng and to avoid puting gel or whatever on it that risks to damage it !

oh ...and I make 4 braids at night to make a curly "light bun" !
Im not really pretty but APL is worth it !

Right now I got the blues and every other colour in the spectrum, and I'm only 12 weeks. It's definitely the climate, cause my hair is dry no matter how much moisture I put in it, and it's just driving me :wallbash:. But I will not go postal, I promise!

*sigh*
Right now I am 2 months 2 weeks and 6 days post and I think my hair looks a hot mess! It's starting to get warm here so I feel:wallbash:
If I could master a braidout I would be set, but the style eludes me. Right now I have a semi mowhawk set with a bang in the front, but the bang is so #(@* poofy:wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:
I am trying everything in me not to relax this weekend.

I usually go ahead and go for my touch up at week 9 or 10. I used to stretch longer, but if you're going to air dry, (I do) stretching may not work as well as it would for someone that is using heat after each wash.

Girl, I'm almost 12 weeks post now and I'm kind of struggling. The main problem that I have is breakage and tangling/matting. It's the worst. I lost so much hair over the weekend just from detangling my matted hair. It was horrible. I feel like I had suffered a setback, but I won't know for sure until I relax my hair. I'm thinking 11 weeks might be the magic number for me. After that, it's just a mess.

I will be 11 weeks post this Friday, this is my first LHCF stretch. I really am at a loss, after each wash I always rollerset this time my rollerset looked a hot mess.:nono: I really wanted to stretch for 14weeks but I may relax on week 12.:wallbash:

I'm 10 weeks and won't be relaxing again until at least 2 more weeks past. What I've done before and now returning to is using an oil on the scalp - not grease - and keeping up with my daily/nightly moisture and seal regimen. I've been using a mix of oils (BB Oil It Up 10 in 1) and it has helped tremendously in keeping my hair from doing that dried out, crispy look, it minimizes breakage, and it also seems to relax my new growth a slight bit. I simply dap a bit on my finger, part my hair, and apply it directly to my scalp.

I don't know if this occurs around 10 weeks because there is enough new growth at that time to keep the natural oils of the scalp from traveling down the hair strand but that kind of makes sounds right to me. I've also used a heavier DC like a cholestoral conditioner around this time and that seems to help too.

Try steam conditioning treatments. They do the trick in detangling and taming new growth. I do them once a week and that comb glides right through my BT induced new growth on my rollersets.
