Anyone Else Feel Like Going Back...

Maybe I am PMS-ing or something, but this hair thing just gets the best of me sometimes. I usually get this way around 6 weeks post until I hit that 12-week gotta get a touch up mark.

I was going through some old pictures of myself yesterday with my husband and I had to admit that even though it was short, my hair looked good back in my before LHCF days. True I was applying heat almost daily and relaxing 6 weeks faithfully, but now I feel so unattractive and boring with this whole protective style thing. The back of the style always looks good, but the textures of my phony ponies don't match my natural texture once I get into stretching past 6 weeks...

I even decided to get a weave to let my hair rest for 6 weeks...I got it yesterday and I HATE IT!!! It looks ok for FAKE HAIR! I feel like a Barbie doll. (Hey Honeydew...I think I might be removing mine just like you did).

I hate to waste money, but this just isn't me (I paid over $500 to get it done, so I am hoping it will grow on me--no pun intended). I am getting compliments on it, but I just don't like it. I am going back to a caucasian stylist tomorrow to get the weave cut because the lady at the salon looked at me like I was crazy when I told her to cut the weave shorter (I was going for the Wendy Raquel Robinson look) I dunno...like I said maybe its hormones

For the first couple of weeks I think braids (and twists) look TERRIBLE on me. After that I love them. Give it time. ;)

Trust me you are not alone. My hair is much healthier than ever but I do wish it came more natural. I am constantly thinking about my hair and its health wishing for the day when it will be at optimal length and health. It seems so allusive...

Just keep growing and switch up from the bun

:yep:

Every now and again I feel like going back to the different Halle Berry short styles I used to wear in the 90's. Ahhh, the grass is always greener...

Wait a minute...$500+ weave. You better bond and grow closer to it to get your money's worth. Plus, I think your hair is safe under there where the scissors can't touch it. ;)

As long as it's not too tight, and you're taking proper care of your own hair underneath, I say keep the weave.

see this sorta of thing makes me weak because last time i wore my hair out was when i was 12 and i been in weaves braids since so its so hard for me to relate to how many of you woman had permed hair and missing it and stuff... its like im an alien and being dropped off on earth for the first time

I've been thinkin' about it the last couple of days. I was just wondering what party styles I could do with my natural hair and still look sleek and chic? I know some people know how to...But I'm new at this. Not to mention all the work it takes. I love the texture and everything...but it IS alot of work. I'm just gonna have to hold on.

YES!!!! I spent $500. I live in Charlotte, NC and my stylist has been featured in hair magazines and everything. She uses a specialized bonding technique that doesn't use glue or braids as the foundation so you don't get the lumps and bumps. She also used three types of Indian Remy Hair to add volume and authenticity. I still think it was a little pricey, but she gives detailed instructions on care for the weave and that price also covers maintenance appointments every 4 weeks (or as needed). She was extremely knowledgeable and professional, and I guess if you did not know me, you would think it was my real hair. I am going to try to wait it out...

It always takes a while for me to "get in touch" with my weaves too. HOpefully it will grow on you, give it time. As for not feeling like you look your best I totally understand. I get tired of protective styles too sometimes. When I get bored I'll try and add a cute accessory to jazz it up a bit. Other times I just give in and use some heat, I figure as long as it's not all the time it won't damage my hair so much.

No it's not you. I saw a pic of my hair in highschool back when I used to use Pink Oil Moisturizer and grease, and I also washed every 2-3 weeks. My hair was so shiny and healthy looking.
Even though it was only shoulder length it got to me somehow. It gave me somehting to think about. Just giving you some support and letting you know I totally feel you. I think sometimes this hair things gets to us because we put so much into for the little progress that we see. Not saying the progress is little, just saying that the big pictures shows over time. Anyways, be patient mama, it will come to you.

I can completely understand where you're coming from. While I do protective styling and conditioner washes so that I can reach my goals, I have to admit that I do generally feel unattractive when I wear them :perplexed . And it's simply because b4 LHCF, all I knew was straight hair, worn down. I just try to keep in mind that I won't be doing it forever, and I allow some breaks to enjoy my hair.

I haven't had a weave before (my hair's so fine, it might snap of) but I would take advantage of this time...just be thankfull that you can get away with not manipulating your hair, take your vitamins, whatever you can to maximize your growth while you have it in!

I have to say, it has been a week since I had the weave removed and I feel GREAT.

It's funny, a year ago when I was in the NO WEAVE/BRAID challenge, I was stressed out and did not know what to do with my hair without braids/weaves.

See this post (http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=75577) I was feel so :( when I started this thread.

Now, I cannot wear a weave and I got sick of the braids are 3 weeks. I just feel much better giving my own hair TLC and feeling natural and attractive. :)
